I'm Thinking of Ending Things me ha parecido, sencillamente, una gran película. A pesar de nunca haber visto nada de Charlie Kaufman, me sentí intrigado debido a las opiniones tan controvertidas que he escuchado de ella. Y ello me ha hecho pensar en una simple idea que quería compartir aquí con ustedes.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things was, quite simply, a great film. Despite never having seen anything by Charlie Kaufman, I was intrigued because of the controversial opinions I've heard about it. And that got me thinking about a simple idea that I wanted to share with you here.
El propósito | The purpose
I'm Thinking of Ending Things es una película sobre el suicidio, y los remordimientos que te vienen a la cabeza antes del acto, cuando aprietas el gatillo, y a partir de ahí.
Kaufman consigue crear este viaje en el tiempo en la cabeza de Jake, un conserje de colegio que se suicida. Observamos su último día de vida.
Vemos sus remordimientos, y cómo presencia todo con añoranza deseando que sea así.
Podríamos creer en primera instancia que esta película trata de Jessie Buckley, y de cómo ella quiere terminar su relación con Jake. Sin embargo, a través de los detalles presentados alrededor de la película, los padres de Jake cambiando constantemente de edad, y cómo la casa cambia con ellos, podemos darnos cuenta que Jessie Buckley es sólo un personaje secundario viendo cómo Jake viaja constantemente a través de su propia vida. Con monólogos poco claros, Charlie nos narra sus propios pensamientos sobre el suicidio y lo que consideramos que vale la pena en la vida.
The genre of Surrealism, as a whole, has the purpose of expressing an idea or a statement with artsy images and a story (sometimes not) vaguely connected. The film asks to be scrutinized by yourself with the purpose of getting to the point of it. What were the author's intentions when making this story? What is the movie saying?
I'm Thinking of Ending Things is a film about suicide, and the regrets that come to your mind before the deed, when you pull the trigger, and whereupon.
Kaufman achieves to create this travel through time in the head of Jake, a janitor of a school who kills himself. We watch his last day of living.
We see his regrets, and how he witnesses everything with longing wishing it to be that way.
Even though we could believe that this movie is about Jessie Buckley, and how she wants to end her relationship with Jake. Nevertheless, through the details depicted all around the fim, the parents of Jake constantly changing their age, and how the house changes with them, we can aknowledge that Jessie Buckley it is just a secondary character witnissing how Jake travels constantly through his own life. With unclear monologues, Charlie narrates us his own thoughts on suicide and what we consider worth in life.
Cómo la gente se toma el propósito | How audience takes purpose
Puedo ver por qué algunas personas dicen que esta película está increíblemente desordenada, pero en mi opinión la historia es lo suficientemente cohesiva como para no ser un filme sin sentido. Más bien pareciera que la gente se siente incómoda cuando siente que no está entendiendo el punto de inmediato. La incertidumbre incomoda a la gente.
A pesar de su extraño desenvolvimiento de eventos, considero que la película logra exitosamente narrar su mensaje principal. Además de esto, la misma tiene una cinematografía increíble; Charlie Kaufman a trabajado en otras películas como Screenwriter, como la conocida "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind ".
La película, en ocasiones, se me hizo algo lenta ya que pierde mucho tiempo en diálogo que no ayuda al desarrollo del punto de la película. En ese sentido se siente dispersa.
No obstante, se nota el cómo Charlie intenta usar estas ocasiones como excusa para hablar de si mismo, y lo que siente.
I can see why some people say this movie is all over the place, but in my opinion the story is cohesive enough to do not be a non-sense film. It feels more like people get uncomfortable when they feel they aren't getting the point right away. Uncertainty makes people feel uncomfortable.
Despite its bizarre unfolding of events, I believe the film successfully manages to narrate its main message. In addition to this, it has incredible cinematography. Charlie Kaufman has worked on other films as a screenwriter, such as the well-known "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".The film, at times, it feels a bit slow to me as it wastes a lot of time in dialogue that doesn't contribute to the development of the point of the film. In that sense it feels scattered.
However, it is noticeable how Charlie tries to use these occasions as an excuse to talk about himself, and what he feels.
Las críticas que leí de esta película, en su mayoría, eran acerca de cómo la falta de cohesión hacía la película algo incomprensible. Les ocasionaba confusión, y en esa confusión encontraban odio. Esto me parece algo genuinamente intrigante.
La reacción primaria que los espectadores tenían de la película era: "No la entiendo, entonces es mala", como si el género del surrealismo no fuese algo que necesite al espectador consumiendo la historia de forma activa.
Entonces, quiero motivarlos a algo distinto.
El arte siempre tendrá un elemento subjetivo, que es lo que nos hace sentirnos identificados con esa pieza en específico o no. Pero, más allá de eso, el arte contiene lenguajes.
Cuando muchas personas llegan al consenso de que algo es bueno, eso crea una convención. En base a esas convenciones del lenguaje artístico, podemos hablar de manera objetiva acerca del arte que nos gusta.
Quiero motivarlos a que piensen en el arte que consumen. Esto, indiscutiblemente, hace que se cuestionen qué es lo que les gusta de ello, y genera una nueva capa de entendimiento y disfrute que a veces se encuentra oculta en el arte.
No odien de primera mano, ni tampoco aclamen. Analicen, piensen, y entiendan. Y en ello he encontrado, y sé que todos podemos encontrar, una nueva forma de ver el arte.
The reviews I read of this film were, for the most part, about how the lack of cohesion made the film incomprehensible. It caused them confusion, and in that confusion they found hatred. I find this genuinely intriguing.
The primary reaction viewers had to the film was, "I don't understand it, so it's bad," as if the genre of surrealism is not something that needs the viewer actively consuming the story.Many films ask for more than our attention; they ask for an analysis from which we can get the idea behind it.
So, I want to motivate you to something different.
Art will always have a subjective element, which is what makes us feel identified with that specific piece or not. But beyond that, art contains languages.
When many people come to the consensus that something is good, that creates a convention. Based on those conventions of artistic language, we can speak objectively about the art we like.I want to encourage you to think about the art you consume. This undeniably makes you question what it is that you like about it, and generates a new layer of understanding and enjoyment that is sometimes hidden in art.
Don't hate firsthand, and don't aclaim. Analyze, think, and understand. And in that I have found, and I know we all can find, a new way of looking at art.

Me gusta Kaufman cuando sus guiones son dirigidos por otros cineastas. Aquí hay ciertas escenas donde divaga demasiado, haciendo perder algo de tiempo, alargando la cinta. Claro, espectadores como a mi o tu, lo aceptamos y hasta podemos disfrutarlos, pero es una obra que no sera del gusto de mucha gente. La puesta en escena fue muy buena, y la triste historia que nos contó me gusto, pero le sobran minutos al film. La actriz, ella es fabulosa, es una talentosa actriz que va en ascenso! Ella me encanta.
La imagen de portada también es una captura de pantalla? en caos de no ser asi, creo que falta colocar la fuente de esa imagen.

También considero que quizás le sobran minutos a la película, pero eso no quita que me haya gustado bastante. Kaufman plantea un buen mensaje. Me gustaría ver su primera película.
