Saludos a todos los miembros de la comunidad, ¿cómo están? Me encantan las películas que contienen enfermedades mentales dentro de su trama por ser un tema que en lo personal me atrae demasiado, por ello decidí darle la oportunidad a ‘Miedo a la lluvia’ —traducción literal del título original en inglés pero que pierde ese doble sentido implícito que después se entenderá, algo que me parece una lástima— que fue la película encargada de entretenerme este fin de semana. Como siempre, advierto la existencia de spoilers en la publicación para que lo tengan en cuenta aquellas personas que todavía no la han visto pero tienen pensado hacerlo, con la aclaratoria que a diferencia de otras opiniones anteriores que he compartido, voy a tocar ampliamente los sucesos que ocurren en el largometraje. Es una película reciente de este mismo año, con Castille Landon a cargo de la dirección y guion, quien pese a no ser una reconocida en el medio creo que en general hizo un excelente trabajo con esta historia si tenemos en cuenta lo difícil que puede llegar a ser mostrar enfermedades mentales como lo son en la realidad, sin embargo este es un fuerte punto de crítica puesto que viene con un toque muy marcado de enfoque fantasioso que muchos consideran no apropiado para un tema delicado como este.
Greetings to all members of the community, how are you? I love movies that contain mental illnesses in their plot because it is a topic that personally attracts me too much, so I decided to give a chance to 'Fear of the rain' which was the movie in charge of entertaining me this weekend. As always, I warn the existence of spoilers in the publication for those who have not yet seen it but plan to do so, with the clarification that unlike other previous opinions I have shared, I will touch extensively on the events that occur in the film. It is a recent film of this same year, with Castille Landon in charge of the direction and script, who despite not being a recognized in the medium I think that in general did an excellent job with this story if we take into account how difficult it can be to show mental illness as they are in reality, however this is a strong point of criticism since it comes with a very marked touch of fantasy approach that many consider inappropriate for a delicate subject like this.
La historia se desarrolla alrededor de Rain Burroughs (Madison Iseman), una adolescente que padece de esquizofrenia por lo tanto ha estado lidiando con muchas alucinaciones, frecuentemente entonces confundiendo la realidad con la fantasía. Pero a decir verdad no será la única con ese problema, ya que la película se valdrá de esto para hacer a los espectadores dudar también, un detalle que siempre me ha gustado porque el coquetear con diferentes posibilidades interpretativas sobre lo que sucede en la pantalla siempre me agrada, pues considero que le agrega mucho dinamismo. Después de una de sus recaídas, Rain regresa a cursar sus estudios académicos para encontrarse rodeada de personas que al no comprender todo por lo que ella está pasando gracias a su condición, la rechazan y terminan tachándola de demente. El único compañero de clase sin juzgarla es Caleb (Israel Broussard), con el pequeño inconveniente de que la protagonista llega a un punto donde ni siquiera confía en sí misma lo suficiente como para creer que es real, además de que la secuencia de eventos mantiene la duda, algo que la película hace bien, ya que le hace justicia a su género de thriller psicológico y suspenso.
The story revolves around Rain Burroughs (Madison Iseman), a teenager who suffers from schizophrenia so she has been dealing with a lot of hallucinations, often confusing reality with fantasy. But to tell the truth she will not be the only one with that problem, since the film will use this to make the viewers doubt as well, a detail that I have always liked because flirting with different interpretative possibilities about what happens on the screen always pleases me, as I consider that it adds a lot of dynamism. After one of her relapses, Rain returns to her academic studies to find herself surrounded by people who, not understanding everything she is going through thanks to her condition, reject her and end up labeling her as insane. The only non-judgmental classmate is Caleb (Israel Broussard), with the small drawback that the protagonist reaches a point where she doesn't even trust herself enough to believe that he is real, plus the sequence of events keeps the doubt, something the film does well, as it does justice to its genre of psychological thriller and suspense.
Una noche cuando Rain tiene que dormir en la habitación de huéspedes, ve por la ventana a su vecina Dani McConnell (Eugenie Bondurant), quien sería de la misma manera su profesora, con un niña, algo muy extraño considerando que no tiene hijos. Es aquí donde comienza a ponerse a prueba esa delgada línea entre qué es cierto y qué no lo es. La adolescente le cuenta a sus padres lo que ha visto, pero ¿cómo creerle si ha estado teniendo alucinaciones desde hace mucho tiempo? En un principio su padre (Harry Connick Jr.) le intenta ayudar a aclarar la situación con la vecina visitándola juntos para hablar del tema y que al resolver las dudas se tranquilizara… sin embargo pasa todo lo contrario, porque Rain se convence con mayor énfasis de que lo que vio era verdad, no una alucinación producto de su esquizofrenia, generando conflicto en su familia cuando ella insiste en mantener su postura.
One night when Rain has to sleep in the guest room, she sees through the window her neighbor Dani McConnell (Eugenie Bondurant), who would be likewise her teacher, with a child, something very strange considering that she has no children. It is here where that fine line between what is true and what is not begins to be tested. The teenager tells her parents what she has seen, but how to believe her if she has been having hallucinations for a long time? At first her father (Harry Connick Jr.) tries to help her clarify the situation with the neighbor by visiting her together to talk about the subject and to resolve the doubts and calm her down... however, the opposite happens, because Rain is convinced with greater emphasis that what she saw was true, not a hallucination product of her schizophrenia, generating conflict in her family when she insists on maintaining her position.
La única persona que parece estar dispuesta a creer esa teoría suya es Caleb, pero una de las grandes revelaciones lo hace alejarse, y es que cuando se confirma por fin que Caleb no es una invención de la mente trastornada de Rain se hace una primera aproximación hacia uno de los giros argumentativos de la película, y es que quien ayuda a Rain darse cuenta que Caleb es una persona real, es la mamá de Rain, que después se nos revelará que lleva años muerta después de haberse suicidado, algo que a decir verdad me dejó con un sabor de ironía agradable. De nuevo nos encontramos con una película que utiliza lo que a mí me gusta pensar como el recurso del truco de magia, donde guía al espectador a centrarse en un punto específico mientras por el lado opuesto es que está ocurriendo todo. Desde cierto momento nos hace entrar en la duda sobre si Caleb es una persona real y no producto de las alucinaciones de Rain, tanto que nosotros nos olvidamos de la posibilidad de que sea otra persona diferente una consecuencia de la esquizofrenia que sufre la protagonista. Es por ello que la revelación sobre la madre de Rain, además de una escena muy bien encajada, a mi parecer, pega tanto, porque la película hace un excelente trabajo en mantenerlo hasta el último momento. Uno de los grandes propósitos de este género de películas es sorprender a los espectadores a través de lo que se presenta en la trama hasta en el mínimo detalle, aquí se ha logrado.
The only person who seems to be willing to believe this theory of his is Caleb, but one of the big revelations pushes him away, and when it is finally confirmed that Caleb is not an invention of Rain's deranged mind, we get a first approach to one of the plot twists of the film, and that is that who helps Rain realize that Caleb is a real person, is Rain's mother, who later will reveal that she has been dead for years after committing suicide, something that to tell the truth left me with a pleasant taste of irony. Once again we find ourselves with a film that uses what I like to think of as the magic trick resource, where it guides the viewer to focus on a specific point while on the opposite side is that everything is happening. From a certain point on we are led to doubt whether Caleb is a real person and not a product of Rain's hallucinations, so much so that we forget about the possibility that he is a different person, a consequence of the schizophrenia suffered by the protagonist. That's why the revelation about Rain's mother, in addition to a very well-timed scene, in my opinion, hits so hard, because the film does an excellent job of keeping it up until the very last moment. One of the great purposes of this genre of films is to surprise viewers through what is presented in the plot down to the smallest detail, here it has been achieved.
El último tramo de la película me pareció excelente, con una Rain determinada a demostrar contra todo pronóstico que sí, puede que haya imaginado a su madre todo este tiempo, pero no el asunto de su vecina con la niña. Aun estando en la parte final, la película insiste en hacernos dudar sobre esta teoría de Rain, tanto con la aparición de alucinaciones que tiene nuevamente Rain con su madre, así como usando a Dani quien una vez descubre que Rain está en el sótano de su casa, trata de convencerla, diciéndole que la niña que cree estar viendo encerrada es parte de sus alucinaciones. De no ser por la repentina aparición de Caleb, que también puede ver a la niña, hubiese sido una explicación bastante probable teniendo en cuenta las circunstancias. Puede que todo esto sea predecible, pues por los detalles que se dejan ver a través de lo que se muestra a los espectadores cualquiera podría haber llegado a la conclusión de que en efecto había algo malo pasando alrededor de Dani, pero lo que me parece destacable es que lo haya mantenido hasta el final, que incluso estando a puestas de este se mantenga firme en ese intento por conservar la duda.
I found the last stretch of the film to be excellent, with Rain determined to prove against all odds that yes, she may have imagined her mother all this time, but not her neighbor's affair with the little girl. Even being in the final part, the film insists on making us doubt about this theory of Rain's, both with the appearance of hallucinations that Rain has again with her mother, as well as using Dani who once she discovers that Rain is in the basement of her house, tries to convince her, telling her that the girl she thinks she is seeing locked up is part of her hallucinations. Were it not for the sudden appearance of Caleb, who can also see the girl, it would have been a fairly likely explanation considering the circumstances. Maybe all this is predictable, because from the details that are shown through what is shown to viewers anyone could have come to the conclusion that there was indeed something bad happening around Dani, but what I find remarkable is that it has kept it until the end, that even being at the end of this remains firm in this attempt to preserve the doubt.
La calidad de la actuación por parte de los actores y actrices que conforman el reparto de la película en mi opinión fue uno de los puntos fuertes, por lo capaces que fueron en conseguir generar esa tensión que necesitaba todo guion cuyas características se orienten a estos géneros. La interpretación de Madison Iseman para el papel de Rain Burroughs desde mi punto de vista ha estado fenomenal puesto que logra provocar esa sensación de estar viendo a una persona luchando contra una enfermedad mental tan grave como lo es la esquizofrenia pese a los toques de fantasía que usa como recurso la película, se nota el dolor y desesperación en parte por estar constantemente a prueba entre diferentes planos, sin mencionar que se trata de una adolescente que quiere vivir una vida normal.
The quality of the acting by the actors and actresses that make up the cast of the film in my opinion was one of the strong points, because of how capable they were in generating the tension needed by any script whose characteristics are oriented to these genres. The interpretation of Madison Iseman for the role of Rain Burroughs from my point of view has been phenomenal since it manages to provoke that feeling of seeing a person struggling with a mental illness as serious as schizophrenia despite the touches of fantasy that the film uses as a resource, the pain and desperation is noted in part by being constantly tested between different planes, not to mention that it is a teenager who wants to live a normal life.

La vi hace un tiempo pero no hice review. El film me gusto, el ultimo tramo fue bueno y los giros de la trama, con la revelación me agrado. La vi fue por Katherine Heig a quien recordaba de la serie Roswell. Las actuaciones fueron aceptables, a este film le falto fue mayor presupuesto.

He visto muchas películas de Katherine Heig, aunque no de estos géneros, me parece una excelente actriz. Y sí, la verdad es que después de verla me gustó mucho cómo se llevaron los giros de la trama en general, quise hacer entonces algo diferente y poner mi opinión sobre ellos. No tengo mucho de lo que quejarme, la disfruté bastante.
