Generally, the world of cinema usually works in such a way that the most box office movies and named in everyone's mouth are those belonging to large sagas and financed by large chains that base their appeal on the action and audiovisual effects that surprise the audience. But no one has stopped to think about what movie focuses its appeal on a set of solid characters and dialogues, well in my case this type of film manages to hook me quite a lot and so I spent my time looking for one that meets these characteristics.
Generalmente el mundo del cine suele funcionar de forma en que las películas más taquilleras y nombradas en boca de todo el mundo son aquellas pertenecientes a grandes sagas y financiadas por grandes cadenas que basan su atractivo en la acción y efectos audiovisuales que sorprenden al público, pero, ¿Ninguno se ha detenido a pensar en qué película centra su atractivo en un conjunto de personajes y diálogos sólidos?, pues en mi caso este tipo de películas logra engancharme bastante y por eso dediqué mi tiempo a buscar una que cumpla con estas características.
That's why looking through the different ones in the catalog I found a movie that I had been wanting to see for a long time because besides being by Quentin Tarantino, who is one of my favorite directors, it is also his first serious movie made, directed, written and produced by him with the title Reservoir Dogs. And it is the one that, in my opinion, started the whole universe of movies so big that we have today.
Es por esto que buscando en las diferentes que hay en el catálogo di con una película que tenía bastante tiempo queriendo verla ya que además de que es de Quentin Tarantino que es de mis directores favoritos, también es su primera película seria sacada, dirigida, escrita y producida por él con el título de Reservoir Dogs. Y es la que, en mi opinión, dio inicio a todo el universo de películas tan grande que tenemos hoy en día.
Reservoir Dogs is about a group of criminals who were hired to rob a jewelry store, everything here looks like a typical successful heist movie but, surprise, it is not like that, things do not happen as they had planned when the police ambush them, some members of the band of robbers manage to escape and decide to meet at their usual meeting point to find out who was the snitch in the group.
Reservoir Dogs trata de un grupo de criminales que fueron contratados para robar una joyería, todo acá pinta como una típica película de robo exitoso pero, sorpresa, no es así, las cosas no suceden como lo tenían planeado cuando la policía les da una emboscada, algunos miembros de la banda de atracadores logran escapar y deciden reunirse en su punto de encuentro habitual para descubrir quién fue el soplón en el grupo.
The film has a curious feature and that is that it is told in a non-linear way, this is something typical of Tarantino and that many people saw it in films like Pulp Fiction and have this mistaken belief that this was the beginning with which Tarantino began with this style but, surprise, it is not so, actually in Reservoir Dogs begins with this section that makes you think from the beginning What is happening why do they show me this now? Or at least that may happen at the beginning, but as the scenes go by you understand what it was all about and understand a little more about the plot of the film.
La película tiene una característica curiosa y es que se te es contada de una manera no lineal, esto es algo típico de Tarantino y que mucha gente lo vio en películas como Pulp Fiction y tienen esa creencia errónea de que ahí fue el comienzo con el que Tarantino inició con este estilo pero, sorpresa, no es así, realmente en Reservoir Dogs comienza con este apartado que te hace pensar desde el comienzo ¿Qué está pasando? ¿por qué me muestran esto ahora? O al menos eso puede suceder al principio,pero conforme van pasando las escenas vas entendiendo de qué se trataba y captando un poco más como es la trama que atañe a la película.
One of the sections that most caught my attention when watching it was the characters, specifically the names that go by different colors. Mr. Blue, Mr. White, and so on, are generally well worked and written, and through the dialogues, which is an exceptional section in the film, they portray sublimely the characteristics of each one of them.
Uno de los apartados que más me llamó la atención de verla fueron los personajes, específicamente los nombres que van de diferentes colores. Mr. Blue, Mr. White y así, generalmente están bien trabajados y escritos y a través de los diálogos que es un característica excepcional en la película la retratan de una manera sublime las características de cada uno.
The dialogues are a fundamental part of the film because thanks to them we become aware of everything that surrounds the plot and what is happening as we watch it. It is customary in Tarantino's films and is something he tries to do a lot, interacting between the characters through dialogue is a resource that exploits and when it comes to discovering a traitor he puts lines of dialogue that in addition to questioning about the robbery and whether he is guilty or not, also takes the opportunity to leave us pieces that tell us about the character to which he is talking, in this section the dialogues are one of the best things he does.
Los diálogos forman parte fundamental de la película porque gracias a ellos nos vamos dando cuenta de todo lo que envuelve a la trama y que es lo que está pasando conforme la vas viendo. Ya es de costumbre en películas de Tarantino y es algo que él intenta hacer mucho, interaccionar entre los personajes mediante los diálogos es un recurso que explota y cuando se trata de descubrir a un traidor mete líneas de diálogos que además de interrogar sobre el atraco y si es el culpable o no, también aprovecha para dejarnos pedazos que nos cuentan acerca del personaje al cual se le está hablando. En este apartado los diálogos son una de las mejores cosas que hace.
The plot is based on a heist and first impressions may make you think "Heist? Then it must be all about action and shooting". Well, yes and no, since Reservoir Dogs, despite having a limited resource in terms of synopsis (this is because it doesn't have a great plot base from which a long story can emerge) is based more on the conversation between the team. And this is based on the work of the dialogues so that they are not monotonous and the touch given by the actors who make life in the film.
La trama se basa en un atraco y a primeras impresiones puede hacerte pensar “¿Atraco? Entonces debe tratarse de acción y disparos”. Pues sí y no, ya que Reservoir Dogs a pesar de tener un recurso limitado en cuanto a sinopsis (esto dicho porque no tiene una gran base de argumento de la cual pueda salir una larga historia) se basa más en el tramo de la conversación entre el equipo. Y esto es a base del trabajo de los diálogos para que no sean monótonos y del toque que le dan los actores que hacen vida en la película.
Michael Madsen's performance as Mr. Blonde is undoubtedly one of my favorites of Tarantino, besides the famous dance he does, his dialogue and the subdued touch of his character is something that characterizes him and that we will see in other films in which the actor participates as The Hateful Eight. It is also quite outstanding the one with Steve Buscemi and Harvey Keitel.
Sin duda la interpretación de Michael Madsen como Mr. Blonde es una de mis favoritas de Tarantino,además del famoso baile que hace, sus diálogos y el toque tenue de su personaje es algo que lo caracteriza y que veremos en otras películas en las que el actor participa como The Hateful Eight. También es bastante destacada la que hace Steve Buscemi y Harvey Keitel.
Besides that Tarantino is involved as a character (he always plays the best roles), something also seen in his other films but let's remember that this was the first one and that's why I say it's the starting point of his universe. It is the one that shows everything that Tarantino is today and is the one that began with a legacy so recognized today, non-linear cuts and Tarantino himself playing a character that was a resource used in Pulp Fiction, long dialogues trying to discover the person or persons involved and characters with memorable personalities used in The Hateful Eight.
Además de que Tarantino es implicado como un personaje (siempre hace los mejores papeles), algo también visto en sus otras películas pero que, acordémonos que esta fue la primera y es por eso que digo que es el punto de partida de su universo. Es la que muestra todo lo que es Tarantino hoy en día y es la que comenzó con un legado tan reconocido a día de hoy, cortes no lineales y al mismo Tarantino interpretando un personaje que fue un recurso utilizado en Pulp Fiction, diálogos largos intentando descubrir al o a los implicados y personajes con personalidades memorables usadas en The Hateful Eight.
In short, many more things that today if we see the last ones from the mid 90's we will say Hey, I already saw that! but in reality, what you saw started from here, this is Tarantino in his greatest facet. I wouldn't dare to say it's Tarantino's best film because it was still somewhat immature, and the effect of not having a high budget makes me think that limited him in terms of resources, but with that and all, it's a film that I would place as his second-best to date.
En fin, muchas cosas más que a día de hoy si vemos de las últimas hacia mediados de los 90 diremos ¡Oye, eso ya lo vi! pero es que en realidad lo que viste partió de acá, esto es Tarantino en su mayor faceta. No me atrevería a decir que es la mejor película de Tarantino porque aún se notaba algo inmadura, y el efecto de no tener un alto presupuesto me hace pensar que eso lo limitó en cuanto a recursos pero con eso y todo es una película que la situaría como su segunda mejor a día de hoy.
If you are a Tarantino fan or you like his films and you haven't seen it yet, you have to go see them right now, and if you are not, you have to go see them too. Reservoir Dogs is a movie that I recommend, maybe if you are more used to movies that don't have so much dialogue and more action is where I wouldn't recommend it so much but if it's not the case, then yes. Si eres fan de Tarantino o te gustan sus películas y aún no la has visto tienes que ir obligatoriamente en este momento a verla, y si no lo eres también. Reservoir Dogs es una película que recomiendo, quizás si eres más de estar acostumbrado a películas que no tengan tanto diálogo y más acción es donde no la recomendaría tanto pero si no es el caso, entonces sí. La película que lo puso en la mira. Que tuviese poco presupuesto es lo que para mi la hace mas atractiva y una de las mejores de su filmografia. El hace un personaje pero en realidad tiene pocos minutos en pantalla. No es el mejor personaje. En Django también actúa, en la parte final.
Memorable la escena que comienza con plano secuencia siguiendo al personaje de Madsen hasta el vehículo en la calle para regresar al deposito, hacer el baile y luego cortar la oreja. Se le critica a Tarantino la violencia, pero es una escena que no muestra la violencia, el corte ocurre fuera de cámara. Lo que demuestra que menos es mas, sin mostrar el corte de la oreja causo polémica la escena.
Cuantas te faltan por ver de Tarantino?
Te recomiendo también ver las películas que no fueron dirigidas por el, pero que escribió los guiones. True Romance dirigida por el difunto Tony Scott. Tiene una escena donde se nota el dialogo tarantinesco, también los personajes tiene algunas características de su universo. Y Natural Born Killers dirigida por Oliver Stone, quien si hizo grandes cambios al guion, pero es una gran película.
Busca una película llamada Four Rooms, son cuatro historias con un personaje en común en todas ellas. Una de las historias es escrita y dirigida por Tarantino. La mejor de las cuatro.
Si es cierto que en esta película su personaje es algo neutral, no hace gran cosa pero sus líneas de diálogo y participación me parece que complementan bien y ayudan al desarrollo de los personajes principales. Lo de que siempre hace los mejores me refería a que sus aparaciones siempre son interpretando personajes poco odiables, o al menos en lo que siempre recuerdo, por ejemplo cuando apareció en Pulp Fiction me gustó el papel que interpretó y me parecio bastante memorable y gracioso viendo todo el desastre que montaron Jules y Vincent. También en Death Proof hace un papel bastante cool como el tipo del bar aunque también es muy corto, diría que es más por agregar ese toque extra de él a la película.
Lo de la violencia es algo que muchos medios le tienen la guerra hecha desde hace tiempo, es su esencia y al fin y al cabo es divertido como dice él 😂 esa escena es mi favorita, Michael Madsen es un actor bastante top dentro de sus películas, aunque Christoph Waltz para mi es el que mejor lo hace. Es algo característico aunque no todas sus películas (Jackie Brown por ejemplo) tienen excesiva sangre y balaceras. Con esta ya mi vi todas, esperando la 10ma y última al parecer lamentablemente la mejor a mi juicio es Kill Bill (juntando sus dos volúmenes) y la que menos me gustó diría que Jackie Brown.
Tenía pendientes por ver Natural Born Killers y Four rooms de hecho, ya son las próximas por ver en mi lista si o sí. Ya estoy buscando True Romance para agregarla también. This is a MASTERFUL #film... one of my tops of all time, and unquestionably my favourite Tarantino movie. Only a world-class storyteller can hold an audience captive without delivering anything at all. Nothing happens, really, until the end... coffee, conversation, some anxious arguments in a warehouse... and it is beautiful.
I agree with you about Mr. Blonde too! One of my favourite pieces of film dialogue is his line: "If they hadn't have done what I told them not to do, they'd still be alive."

One of the most thrilling films I've ever seen, I hadn't met Tarantino yet and suddenly I was in the middle of a shooting and shredding with country music, good times.
Yes, this film is brutal, for me one of the best works in his good style. I don't know if you've seen it but if you did like this one for the tension of some moments I recommend The Hateful Eight which is similar in some ways, it just doesn't have as much action, it's more related to the dialogues and the tension they generate and it develops a little slower.
