Tras los acontecimientos de The Avengers, las historias que se unificaron en el crossover ahora avanzan con los resultados de dicho encuentro, y en esta ocasión es el turno de los dioses asgardianos en esta película que nos mostrará el destino de los hermanos Thor y Loki tras la batalla de Nueva York, a la vez que abre la puerta a nuevos elementos que afectarán mucho el futuro de la saga.
After the events of The Avengers, the stories that were unified in the crossover now move forward with the results of that encounter, and this time it is the turn of the Asgardian gods in this film that will show us the fate of the brothers Thor and Loki after the battle of New York, while opening the door to new elements that will greatly affect the future of the saga.
Un poco de Lord of the Rings, un poco de Star Wars y un poco de Marvel
Lo primero que pienso al recordar esta película, es en la escencia que me ha transmitido desde la primera vez que la vi. Para esta película, el enfoque y la dirección fueron cambiados y mientras la anterior daba una sensación entre películas de aliens y un poco de Furia de Titanes, la nueva película la he comparado más bien con las películas que menciono arriba.
Por un lado, los elfos oscuros y el aire medieval de Asgard los relaciono mucho con el ambiente de la Tierra Media de las películas El Señor de los Anillos, elementos como las peleas, las naves y ciertas áreas del interior del castillo de Odín lo asocio con el ambiente de Star Wars Episodio I, donde dentro del mundo espacial que trabajan esas películas, vemos particularmente bastantes espacios de la realeza, y finalmente, todo el concepto de los personajes de Thor, Loki y los personajes terrícolas se sienten igual que el resto de las películas de Marvel.
Algo que debo reconocer, es que el ambiente de esta película es mi preferido para acompañar a este personaje, pues entre tantos superhéroes que posee esta saga, es acertado resaltar sus diferencias lo más posible en sus películas individuales. En el caso de las películas de Thor, tratándose de dioses asgardianos, tomar como referencia a El Señor de los Anillos (siendo su mundo inspirado en la mitología nórdica además) para los mundos y los personajes, y Star Wars: La Amenaza Fantasma para la parte galáctica, es algo que considero totalmente funcional y que, de hecho, me gusta.
A bit of Lord of the Rings, a bit of Star Wars and a bit of Marvel.
The first thing I think of when I remember this movie, is the essence it has conveyed to me since the first time I saw it. For this movie, the focus and direction were changed and while the previous one gave a feeling between alien movies and a little bit of Clash of the Titans, the new movie I have compared it more to the movies I mention above.
On the one hand, the dark elves and the medieval feel of Asgard I relate a lot to the Middle-earth setting of The Lord of the Rings movies, elements like the fights, the ships and certain areas inside Odin's castle I associate with the setting of Star Wars Episode I, where within the space world that those movies work, we particularly see quite a few spaces of royalty, and finally, the whole concept of the characters of Thor, Loki and the Earthling characters feel the same as the rest of the Marvel movies.
Something I must admit, is that the atmosphere of this movie is my favorite to go along with this character, because among so many superheroes that this saga possesses, it is wise to highlight their differences as much as possible in their individual movies. In the case of the Thor movies, dealing with Asgardian gods, taking The Lord of the Rings as a reference (being its world inspired by Norse mythology as well) for the worlds and characters, and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace for the galactic part, is something that I consider totally functional and that, in fact, I like.
La simpleza del mundo oscuro
El problema con Thor: Mundo Oscuro es que esta atmósfera mayormente seria y dramática que posee, funciona mejor si acompaña una historia interesante y bien estructurada, lo cual no es el caso en esta película.
Quizás uno de los mayores problemas está en el bando antagonista con los elfos oscuros, y más aún con el principal villano Malekith, quien busca el poder del Aether (La primera de las 6 gemas del infinito en presentarse como tal) para "regresar la oscuridad al universo". El problema allí es que, aunque se entienda que es un plan siniestro, es una motivación con la que es difícil conectar como espectador, por lo que acaban quedando simplemente como otros villanos genéricos que buscan poder. Por otro lado, la caracterización de Malekith no llega a poseer suficiente personalidad o rasgos propios que lo vuelvan un personaje interesante, por lo que al final, el villano queda completamente en el olvido junto con todo su gremio.
Al fallar con el bando antagonista, la película se fuerza a depender del resto de la trama, lo cual, tristemente, tampoco llega a tener el suficiente atractivo como para mantener por sí solas el ambiente dramático que su estilo propone, por lo que llega a sentirse algo tediosa.
The simplicity of the dark world
The problem with Thor: The Dark World is that this mostly serious and dramatic atmosphere it possesses, works better if it accompanies an interesting and well-structured story, which is not the case in this movie.
Perhaps one of the biggest problems is on the antagonist side with the dark elves, and even more so with the main villain Malekith, who seeks the power of the Aether (The first of the 6 infinity stones to be presented as such) to "return darkness to the universe". The problem there is that, while it's understood to be a sinister plan, it's a motivation that's hard to connect with as a viewer, so they end up coming off as just another generic power-seeking villains. On the other hand, the characterization of Malekith fails to possess enough personality or traits of his own to make him an interesting character, so in the end, the villain is completely forgotten along with his entire guild.
By failing with the antagonist side, the film is forced to depend on the rest of the plot, which, sadly, also fails to have enough appeal to maintain the dramatic atmosphere that its style proposes, so it comes to feel somewhat tedious.
El clásico humor de Marvel ¿Problema o salvación?
Otra cosa que resalta mucho en esta película es la presencia del típico humor de las películas de Marvel Studios.
He visto que este humor de la franquicia ha llegado a ser muy criticado por una gran cantidad de personas, quienes afirman que vuelven más tontas estas películas y las convierten prácticamente en películas para niños. En Thor: Mundo Oscuro fue ese el caso, pues la gente se quejó de que este humor entorpecía la seriedad de la historia.
En mi caso particular, considero que el humor de esta película, aunque efectivamente choca con la atmósfera seria de la que hablé antes, también logra aligerar su trama para así volver su trama menos pesada, pues como mencioné antes, no es una trama que realmente capte un gran interés.
Además, aunque a la atmósfera de esta película le podría haber venido bien un poco más de seriedad, también es cierto que la comedia es algo que cuaja muy bien con el Thor de Chris Hemsworth, lo cual se ve más resaltado a partir de Thor Ragnarok.
The classic Marvel humor. Problem or salvation?
Another thing that stands out a lot in this movie is the presence of the typical humor of Marvel Studios movies.
I have seen that this humor in the franchise has come to be highly criticized by a lot of people, who claim that they make these movies sillier and practically turn them into children's movies. In Thor: The Dark World that was the case, as people complained that this humor hindered the seriousness of the story.
In my particular case, I consider that the humor of this movie, although it does indeed clash with the serious atmosphere I talked about before, also manages to lighten its plot to make it less heavy, because as I mentioned before, it is not a plot that really captures a great interest.
Also, although the atmosphere of this movie could have used a little more seriousness, it is also true that comedy is something that fits very well with Chris Hemsworth's Thor, which is more highlighted from Thor Ragnarok onwards.

La siguiente película de la que hablaré será la que es considerada por muchos una de las mejores películas del UCM, Capitán América y el Soldado de Invierno.
