Recientemente tuve la oportunidad de ver con mi padre y mi hermano, la nueva serie de Disney+ sobre la franquicia de Star Wars, es decir, The Book of Boba Fett. Aunque me ha gustado mucho, hay varias cosas que puedo decir al respecto, por lo que traigo aquí mi reseña de la misma.
I recently had the chance to watch with my father and brother, the new Disney+ series about the Star Wars franchise, namely The Book of Boba Fett. While I liked it a lot, there are several things I can say about it, so I bring here my review of it.
Antecedentes
Desde que en 2012 se supo que Disney había adquirido la compañía Lucasfilm, propietaria de la franquicia completa de Star Wars, los fans de la saga y el público general no han dejado de generar conversación al respecto, sobre las decisiones que toma la compañía con su nuevo producto y todos los anuncios que se relacionan con éste.
La trilogía secuela de Disney, conformada por "The Force Awakens", "The Last Jedi" y "The Rise of Skywalker" generó tanta polémica que acabó por ganarse el disgusto del público, debido al camino que la compañía tomaba con la franquicia. Eso sumado al fracaso del Spin-of "Solo: a Star Wars Story", el cual sería el primero de muchas películas Spin-Of que acabaron por posponerse por el mismo motivo.
Entre estos proyectos pospuestos, se encontraba uno que desde un inicio atraía la atención del público, pues era una de las primeras películas anunciadas junto con la trilogía secuela, Rogue One: a Star Wars Story y el filme en solitario de Han Solo. Dicha película sería protagonizada por Boba Fett, el cazarrecompensas presentado en los episodiosV y VI de las películas originales, y cuyo tiempo en pantalla no llegaba a superar los 5 minutos, pero que aún así logró ganarse el aprecio del público.
Después de que Solo no superara las expectativas de la compañía y pospusieran el resto de proyectos para analizar mejor el futuro de la franquicia, se decidió por lanzar un proyecto menos arriesgado que otro gran filme, estrenando así la serie "The Mandalorian", sobre un cazarrecompensas inspirado igualmente en Boba Fett pero con su propia historia y características. La serie acabó por ganarse el cariño del público, siendo mejor aprobada por los fans que la trilogía secuela, y siendo considerada una mejor continuación para la saga original (aún tratándose de un Spin-of).
La segunda temporada de dicha serie explotó aub más la nostalgia de la comunidad, presentando más elementos de la serie animada "Star Wars: Clone Wars" como el Dark Saber, Bo Kathan y Ahsoka, elementos de la trilogía original como la gran revelación del final con Luke Skywalker en su X-Wing o, finalmente, la aparición del mismísimo Boba Fett, interpretado por Temuera Morrison, quien interpretó a Jango Fett y sus clones en la trilogía precuela, siendo Boba Fett uno de ellos.
Finalmente, la serie culminó con una escena post-créditos protagonizada por este último personaje, cerrando con las palabras "Boba Fett regresará en The Book of Boba Fett", presentando así su propia serie para continuar su historia.
Background
Ever since it became known in 2012 that Disney had acquired Lucasfilm, the company that owns the entire Star Wars franchise, fans of the saga and the general public have not stopped generating conversation about the decisions the company is making with its new product and all the announcements related to it.
The Disney sequel trilogy, made up of "The Force Awakens", "The Last Jedi" and "The Rise of Skywalker" generated so much controversy that it ended up earning the public's displeasure, due to the path the company was taking with the franchise. That added to the failure of the Spin-of "Solo: a Star Wars Story", which would be the first of many Spin-Of movies that ended up being postponed for the same reason.
Among these delayed projects, there was one that from the beginning attracted the attention of the public, as it was one of the first films announced along with the sequel trilogy, Rogue One: a Star Wars Story and the solo film of Han Solo. Said film would star Boba Fett, the bounty hunter introduced in episodesV and VI of the original films, and whose screen time never exceeded 5 minutes, but still managed to win over audiences.
After Solo did not exceed the company's expectations and they postponed the rest of the projects to better analyze the future of the franchise, they decided to launch a less risky project than another great film, thus releasing the series "The Mandalorian", about a bounty hunter equally inspired by Boba Fett but with his own story and characteristics. The series ended up winning the affection of the public, being better approved by the fans than the sequel trilogy, and being considered a better continuation for the original saga (even being a Spin-of).
The second season of said series exploited aub more the nostalgia of the community, featuring more elements of the animated series "Star Wars: Clone Wars" such as the Dark Saber, Bo Kathan and Ahsoka, elements from the original trilogy such as the big reveal at the end with Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing or, finally, the appearance of Boba Fett himself, played by Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett and his clones in the prequel trilogy, Boba Fett being one of them.
Finally, the series culminated with a post-credits scene starring the latter character, closing with the words "Boba Fett will return in The Book of Boba Fett", thus introducing his own series to continue his story.
Capítulos 1 - 4
Tras su muerte al inicio de The Return of the Jedi, el regreso del personaje en The Mandalorian no había sido realmente explicado, eso hasta que esta serie nos comenzó a contar en paralelo, la historia del personaje antes y después de la serie mencionada, mostrando como primero logra escapar del interior de la bestia que lo devoraba originalmente y como luego de recuperar su armadura, se dedica a suceder a Jabba The Hutt como Daimyo de Tatooine.
Al ser una serie sucesora a los acontecimientos de The Mandalorian y con tantos elementos en común, se vuelve imposible no comparar ambas series, cosa que inicialmente acaba por perjudicar esta serie pues, a pesar de ser encarnado por el mismo actor que interpretó a Jango Fett, éste no llega a superar en carisma a Din Djarin, el Mandaloriano, así como su serie carece de elementos sorpresa como las múltiples aventuras presentadas en su predecesora o personajes con el encanto de Grogu. Esto sumado al lento avance de los primeros episodios, generó la sensación de que la serie crecería bajo la sombra de su predecesora.
A pesar de esto, aunque la trama centrada en el nuevo Damyo y su paso por la tribu Tusken no acabó siendo lo más popular de Star Wars, debo decir que el desarrollo de este personaje si fue muy de mi agrado, permitiendo un crecimiento real al mismo a la vez que nos permiten conocer el enfoque que le darán, ahora que la franquicia lo ha resucitado para darle más y mejor uso.
Adicionalmente, la frase con la que convence a Fennec Shand de dejar a los cazarrecompensas, es una de mis favoritas de este personaje, pues ayuda a entender el punto en el que se encuentra Boba Fett y sus intenciones en la política, al preguntarle "¿Cuántas veces has estado a punto de morir por conflictos que se pudieron evitar?".
Chapters 1 - 4
After his death at the beginning of The Return of the Jedi, the return of the character in The Mandalorian had not been really explained, that until this series began to tell us in parallel, the history of the character before and after the mentioned series, showing how first he manages to escape from the interior of the beast that devoured him originally and how after recovering his armor, he dedicates himself to succeed Jabba The Hutt as the Daimyo of Tatooine.
Being a successor series to the events of The Mandalorian and with so many elements in common, it becomes impossible not to compare both series, something that initially ends up hurting this series because, despite being played by the same actor who played Jango Fett, he fails to surpass Din Djarin, the Mandalorian in charisma, as well as his series lacks surprise elements such as the multiple adventures presented in its predecessor or characters with the charm of Grogu. This added to the slow progress of the first episodes, generated the feeling that the series would grow under the shadow of its predecessor.
Despite this, although the plot focused on the new Damyo and his passage through the Tusken tribe did not end up being the most popular of Star Wars, I must say that the development of this character was very much to my liking, allowing a real growth to it while allowing us to know the approach that will be given, now that the franchise has resurrected it to give him more and better use.
Additionally, the line with which he convinces Fennec Shand to leave the bounty hunters, is one of my favorites of this character, as it helps to understand the point Boba Fett is at and his intentions in politics, asking him "How many times have you nearly died for conflicts that could have been avoided?".
Capítulos 5 - 6
Después de que los recuerdos de Boba Fett sobre su llegada al poder, se cruzaran con los eventos de la segunda temporada de The Mandalorian en su primer encuentro con Fennec Shand, el capítulo 4 terminó con la mención de la necesidad de un equipo más grande de su lado para enfrentar a los Spyke, momento que nos hizo preguntarnos ¿Acaso veríamos al Mandaloriano reaparecer también en esta serie? Pregunta que fue respondida en el capítulo 5, donde vemos los aconteceres que le rodean después se la última vez que se le vio, ahora con el Dark Saber, sin su compañero Grogu a su lado y habiendo roto su promesa sagrada de no mostrar su rostro a nadie según su religión.
Este capítulo y el siguiente, los cuales impulsaron una mejor respuesta por parte del público al mostrar de nuevo al Mandaloriano y su historia con su nuevo sable, ver el entrenamiento Jedi de Grogu con su maestro Luke, volver a ver a Ahsoka y a R2-D2, pusieron en pausa la historia de Boba Fett y su trabajo en Tatooine, llegando al extremo en el que el personaje ni siquiera sale en el quinto capítulo de la serie, el cual se centra única y exclusivamente en el Mandaloriano.
Aún cuando pude disfrutar estas historias, al ser alguien que disfrutó tanto The Mandalorian, la forma en que estos capítulos se distraen de la trama principal es algo que crítico abiertamente en esta serie, pues demuestra poco interés por parte de la producción en realmente desarrollar bien la historia del protagonista y más en simplemente seguir construyendo la franquicia para crear más y más series relacionadas, las cuales continuarán las historias que planteen sus predecesoras. La historia de Din Djarin y Grogu se podrá haber ganado el cariño tantos de los fanáticos veteranos de la franquicia como de los nuevos seguidores, pero no cambia el hecho de que introducir la nueva serie como una nueva historia aparte, para terminar convirtiéndola en la secuela directa de los acontecimientos de The Mandalorian es un movida extraña y criticable.
Chapters 5 - 6
After Boba Fett's memories of his rise to power crossed with the events of the second season of The Mandalorian in his first encounter with Fennec Shand, chapter 4 ended with the mention of the need for a larger team on his side to confront the Spyke, a moment that made us wonder would we see the Mandalorian reappear in this series as well? A question that was answered in chapter 5, where we see the events surrounding him after the last time he was seen, now with the Dark Saber, without his companion Grogu by his side and having broken his sacred promise not to show his face to anyone according to his religion.
This chapter and the next, which prompted a better response from the audience by showing again the Mandalorian and his story with his new saber, seeing Grogu's Jedi training with his master Luke, seeing Ahsoka and R2-D2 again, they put the story of Boba Fett and his work on Tatooine on pause, going to the extreme where the character doesn't even appear in the fifth chapter of the series, which focuses solely and exclusively on the Mandalorian.
Even though I was able to enjoy these stories, being someone who enjoyed The Mandalorian so much, the way in which these chapters distract from the main plot is something I openly criticize in this series, as it shows little interest on the part of the production in really developing the protagonist's story well and more in simply continuing to build the franchise to create more and more related series, which will continue the stories posed by their predecessors. The story of Din Djarin and Grogu may have endeared itself to both longtime fans of the franchise and newcomers alike, but it doesn't change the fact that introducing the new series as a separate new story, only to end up making it the direct sequel to the events of The Mandalorian is a strange and criticizable move.
Capítulo 7
Finalmente, el capítulo 7 nos da un satisfactorio cierre para esta corta serie. La trama de Bobba Fett vuelve a ser protagonista (afortunadamente) y nos da su gran batalla final contra los Spyke. Hasta el episodio anterior, viendo que existían tantos conflictos activos aún y que los enemigos parecían tener aún mucho poder, llegué a pensar que la serie contendría un final abierto y que tendría que esperar alrededor de un año por una segunda temporada para ver el desenlace, no obstante, aunque me parecía que todo apuntaba a ello, el capítulo acabó por sorprendeme con la resolución de todos los problemas planteados, así como con todas las preguntas principales respondidas, de forma coherente y emocionante, dando además un cierre al desarrollo de todos los elementos introducidos.
No quiere esto decir que la serie no pueda tener una segunda temporada, la búsqueda de Boba Fett por limpiar las calles de Mos Espa a la vez que busca proteger el ecosistema de Tatooine aún posee muchos posibles enemigos, así como podría haber un retorno de los primos de Jabba The Hutt, quienes se apartaron del conflicto a mitad de la historia para realizar el poder de los Spyke. Aún con esas posibilidades y la esperanza de que una próxima temporada rescate lo mejor de esta historia, puedo decir que estoy satisfecho con el final de la primera temporada.
Chapter 7
Finally, chapter 7 gives us a satisfying closure to this short series. The Bobba Fett plot returns to the forefront (thankfully) and gives us his grand final battle against the Spyke. Until the previous episode, seeing that there were so many active conflicts still existing and that the enemies still seemed to have a lot of power, I came to think that the series would contain an open ending and that I would have to wait about a year for a second season to see the denouement, however, although it seemed to me that everything pointed to it, the chapter ended up surprising me with the resolution of all the problems raised, as well as with all the main questions answered, in a coherent and exciting way, also giving closure to the development of all the elements introduced.
This is not to say that the series can't have a second season, Boba Fett's quest to clean up the streets of Mos Espa while seeking to protect the ecosystem of Tatooine still possesses many possible enemies, as well as there could be a return of Jabba The Hutt's cousins, who stepped away from the conflict midway through the story to realize the power of the Spyke. Even with those possibilities and the hope that a next season will salvage the best of this story, I can say that I am satisfied with the end of the first season.
Dune pero más Western y menos bíblico
No es un secreto para nadie que las películas originales de Star Wars ya tenían múltiples elementos inspirados en la novela de ciencia ficción, Dune de Frank Herbert. Las dunas de Tatooine siempre han sido una clara muestra de ello, sin embargo, creo que ninguna referencia de esta saga había estado nunca tan explícita o protagónica antes de The Book of Boba Fett, donde no solo toma lugar una gran parte de la historia en las dunas de Tatooine sino que además se nos habla del derecho legítimo que tienen los Tusken sobre estas tierras y del gran valor que tiene la especia que se encuentra en ellas, a la vez que se combate a la gran organización espacial que ha conquistado el planeta para obtener dicha escencia por la fuerza y ganado así una gran cantidad de poder y riqueza en la galaxia. La similitud es tal que casi me cuesta distinguir si se le puede tratar de "referencia" o más bien de "copia y pega", pero de una u otra forma, se logra diferenciar con su conflicto político más cercano al tradicional de la saga de Star Wars y su atmósfera Western, la cual formaba parte de la trilogía original y tomaba relevancia en la serie de The Mandalorian, siendo planteada de forma diferente en esta serie pero igualmente recuperada.
Dune but more Western and less biblical
It's no secret to anyone that the original Star Wars movies already had multiple elements inspired by the science fiction novel, Dune by Frank Herbert. The dunes of Tatooine have always been a clear sign of this, however, I don't think any reference to this saga had ever been so explicit or prominent before The Book of Boba Fett, where not only takes place a great part of the story in the dunes of Tatooine but also tells us about the legitimate right that the Tusken have over these lands and the great value of the spice found in them, while fighting the great space organization that has conquered the planet to obtain that essence by force and thus gain a great amount of power and wealth in the galaxy.The similarity is such that it is almost difficult for me to distinguish if it can be treated as a "reference" or rather as a "copypaste", but in one way or another, it manages to differentiate with its political conflict closer to the traditional one of the Star Wars saga and its Western atmosphere, which was part of the original trilogy and took relevance in The Mandalorian series, being raised in a different way in this series but equally recovered.
Conclusión
Al principio de la serie, recuerdo haber bromeado varias veces con mi papá con el chiste de que porqué se llamaba The Book of Boba Fett si no había ningún libro, sin embargo, no me esperé que eventualmente el chiste pasara a que no había ni libro ni Boba Fett. Entendí los memes que decían cosas tipo "Rumores indican que Boba Fett podría tener un cameo en el próximo episodio de The Book of Boba Fett". Finalmente, creo que este siempre será para mí el talón de Aquiles de esta serie, pues es el punto en el que no se decide si ser su propia historia o la continuación del desarrollo de The Mandalorian.
Igualmente, por más que critique ese punto, puedo decir que es una serie que disfruté. No será el Santo Grial de la televisión, pero estuvo mayormente bien elaborada, nos dió personajes interesantes y al final cumplió con lo que prometió.
Si te gusta la franquicia de Star Wars, tal vez deberías darle una oportunidad a esta serie junto a su antecesora, pues retoman y expanden su universo de una forma mucho más acertada que los últimos filmes.
Conclusion
Early on in the series, I remember joking several times with my dad with the joke that why was it called The Book of Boba Fett if there was no book, however, I didn't expect that eventually the joke would move to there being neither book nor Boba Fett. I understood the memes that said things along the lines of "Rumors indicate that Boba Fett may have a cameo in the next episode of The Book of Boba Fett". Ultimately, I think this will always be the Achilles heel of this series for me, as it's the point where it can't decide whether to be its own story or a continuation of The Mandalorian development.
Likewise, as much as I criticize that point, I can say that it's a series I enjoyed. It won't be the Holy Grail of television, but it was mostly well crafted, gave us interesting characters, and in the end delivered what it promised.
If you like the Star Wars franchise, maybe you should give this series a chance along with its predecessor, as they revisit and expand its universe in a much more successful way than the last films.

Estoy de acuerdo contigo, a los primeros episodios como que le faltaban disparos, algo así jajaja, pero también me gustó ese cambio que le hicieron al personaje, dejándolo decidir que quería hacer y ser mejor.
Aunque siento que los dos últimos episodios le quitaron el protagonismo a lo que estaban haciendo, para dárselo al Mandaloriano, creo que habrían otras cosas que se pudieron plantear en el problema con los Pyke, pero me gustó la serie, fue muy entretenida. Y los memes no faltaron jajaja
Exacto! La historia de Boba Fett podrá haber quedado un poco por debajo de la de Mandalorian, pero tampoco estuvo tan mal como para tener que omitirla casi por completo al final! Mandalorian tiene una tercera temporada confirmada, ahí pudieron haber retomado todo el conflicto del Dark Saber y Grogu.
