Oh! For god almighty, I finally decided to touch one of my favorite WTHIW movies of all times, but what is that? This is my name for the genre of movie that makes you react: What the hell I'm watching! And this one is the lovely queer Queen of them all, just by its name it should give you a heads-up, it's named The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) for a reason, and no, I'm not talking about that hideous and distasteful replay that someone did in 2016, I'm talking about the LGBTQI+ approved that delved a bit into sadism, comedy, horror, music, and an Alien transvestite from transsexual Transylvania, join me as I would like to invite you to the inner of its castle, and do the Time Warp (Again).

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the Queen of all cult movies and influenced not only modern-day bisexuals, but the whole LGBTQI+ community, culture, and event aesthetics, especially when it was time to do the Time Warp, a single common step dance with heavy sensual implications in more than one sense opened the eyes of a generation of night audience in midnight cinemas.
This film spirit is not about the Sensuality of it (as extreme as it is), but it was about being open with your sexuality and allowing yourself to discover it, and find a way to love who you are rather than hiding it away. This effect was made through the roles of the "heroes", the characters of Brad and Janet, who were stereotypical character builds for the media of its time, both on TV and in films, and were the perfect representation of the "how a couple should be and act" in the eyes of 1970s American society.
Those characters were a representation of the society's standards and "molds" where people should fit in, and it was because of this that it was so easy to identify with them, as normal people were often pointed at similar characters to be "the only choice" of a model to shape your self into since childhood, but in this film, they decided to broke to rules, and both Brad and Janet, evolve from their childish persona and limitations.
These were my first time seeing an openly bisexual scene in a film, ever, if it happened before in some obscure art film is something beyond my awarenes, but watching both Brad and Janet break their limitations and self discover, at the same time that they found a way to love each other even after such an event as both having sex with an alien transvestite from Transylvania, but not at the same may I add (cheating), is just a proof of how far this film went for making a point on self-love and sexual culture, and dont forget this was all done with a 12+ rating, meaning that this film was a ok for teenagers, as there was not a single explicit scene in the whole movie.

Most cult films don't start a following, but RHPS was not any midnight movie or night theater screening, it was a living film that acted like a beacon to its audience, the creatures of the night were called, and they answered the call of the film, they proved themselves to be dedicated, passionate and resourceful to the point of turning this movie major flop into the bestseller and mother of all midnight cinema gospels.
If you look at it properly, most B films never try to achieve what this film did, but they all dream of it in their wet dreams, why? Because RHPS made itself feel alive for is time, and that awakened a fan base, who took the film and made it what it is today, they created the setting and let the film do its job, and together this film made it to be a cult cinema classic in just a couple of months with a pair of red lips and a deep voice lead singer that anyone could remember.
It was so influential that even The Simpsons did a chapter on them, because, for the RHPS community, this film was religion, to the Bisexual community this film was the start of the modern-day movement, and to many, this was the first time they ever saw something like it, for them, it opened their eyes, and to the midnight movies, this film changed their entire industries and economics.

The influences this film had on the bisexual movement was incredible, to be precise the first openly bisexual book anthology included a piece called "Bisexuality, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Me", by Elizabeth Reba Weise, and this was an open reaction to the film influence and how it changed Elizabeth life.
Changing lives is part of this film as much as the B cinema history, most the good films of it became cult movies eventually, but this film made a point of changing an original flap into a major success and slingshot itself into popularity, along with B cinema this is not an easy feat, as many of the best B films out there are major legends nowadays.
This is where RHPS shines the best, as it easily shows itself as one of the best films of its genre by mocking its genre, its category, and itself, while holding in honor all the previous original works it mocked, basically being both a comedy and a tribute to them, all of this while sending a clear bisexual beacon to the community that was expecting such work for years, opening many doors to both its cast and its fans.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show opened a lot of doors, but left none in the closet behind it, as almost all the cast managed to build a strong career after this film, especially our heroine Janet (Susan Sarandon), as she managed to push her career and win an Oscar with her talent in the coming years and prove herself as being one of the best actresses of all time. Yet seeing her dance the time warp was amazing because someone that saw her later movies would never link her to a work like this, and I grew up seeing her works, imagine my surprise when I saw this film and her role in it and how feminine and lovely she was on this film.
Femininity is abundant in this film, is so exuberant and overflowing that it amazes me, why? Because this is a Fox film, and someone on Fox had to green light it, and that company was known to be a hard one on that, as you can remember they almost dint green light Star Wars, just remember that fact when you see a film like this because it points how much faith was placed on this film and its message, because Fox was an example of sexist cinema company on its day, and having such a film come out of that company is a surprise by itself.

The developer team of this film never quite knew how it became a cult hit, there is an interview with Tim Curry (Dr. Frank-N-Furter AKA the transvestite alien) where is argue that if the film never got to become a midnight movie, it would have never become a cult hit, as it was the "creatures of the night" the real audience this film was targeted for, and they don't go to daylight cinema at all, the only response on Tim side was that who could have guessed that turn of events? No one could.
I guess it all goes down to timing and my own is not quite right, because I know I'm either a month too early or a couple of months too late, as this film anniversary is coming closer just a month and a few days from this post date, and the pride month is long behind us already, yet I feel that instead of taking advantage of timing I will rather take advantage of my love for cinema history and heritage, we are all somehow dancing the time warp, isn't it? One way or another, we are all victims of time and space, and I hope you make time to watch this film and dance to its tune once more.

This film is one of the first sexually diverse films I ever saw and back in those time it opened my eyes to a world that I was not aware existed, making me both a more tolerant and loving human, if you don't mind me asking, have ever a film made you think about how you perceive the world around you? Me he decidido a tocar una de mis películas favoritas de todos los tiempos, esta forma parte de un genero que llamo "¿Qué demonios estoy mirando?" (QDEM para acortar). Se llama The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) por una razón, y es la adorable reina Queer de todos los filmes B, solo por su nombre debería darte un aviso de la razon y no, no estoy hablando de esa tediosa y desagradable repetición que alguien hizo en 2016, estoy hablando de la original aprobada por toda la comunidad LGBTQI+ que se adentró un poco en el sadismo, la comedia, el horror, la música, y un travesti Alienigena de la Transilvania transexual, acompáñenme, que me gustaría invitarlos al interior de su castillo, y a hacer el Time Warp (Nuevamente).

The Rocky Horror Picture Show es la reina de todas las películas de culto e influyó no sólo en los bisexuales de hoy en día, sino en toda la comunidad LGBTQI+, en la cultura y en la estética de su tiempo, sobre todo cuando llegó el momento de hacer el Time Warp, un baile de un solo paso común con fuertes implicaciones sensuales en más de un sentido que abrió los ojos de una generación de público nocturno en los cines de medianoche.
El espíritu de esta película no tiene que ver con la sensualidad de la misma (por muy extrema que sea), sino que trataba de ser abierto con tu sexualidad y permitirte descubrirla, encontrando asi una forma de amar lo que eres en lugar de ocultarlo. Este efecto se producía a través de los papeles de los "héroes", los personajes de Brad y Janet, que eran los estereotipos de los medios de comunicación de su época, tanto en la televisión como en el cine, y eran la representación perfecta de "cómo debe ser y actuar una pareja" a los ojos de la sociedad estadounidense de los años 70.
Esos personajes eran una representación de los estándares y "moldes" de la sociedad en los que la gente debía encajar, y por eso era tan fácil identificarse con ellos, ya que la gente normal solía señalar a personajes similares como "la única opción" de un modelo en el que amoldarse desde la infancia, pero en esta película, decidieron romper las reglas, y tanto Brad como Janet, evolucionaron desde su personaje infantil y sus limitaciones.
Era la primera vez que veía una escena abiertamente bisexual en una película, si ocurrió antes en alguna oscura película de arte es algo que escapa a mis ojos, pero ver tanto a Brad como a Janet romper sus limitaciones y autodescubrirse, al mismo tiempo que encontraban una forma de amarse incluso después de un acontecimiento como que ambos tuvieran sexo con un travesti alienígena de Transilvania, pero no al mismo tiempo (engañandose mutuamente), es sólo una prueba de lo lejos que llegó esta película para hacer un argumento sobre el amor propio y la cultura sexual, y no se olvide que todo esto se hizo con una calificación de 12+, lo que significa que esta película era un permitida para los adolescentes, ya que no había una sola escena explícita en toda la película.

La mayoría de las películas de culto no generan seguidores, pero RHPS no fue una película de medianoche o una proyección nocturna en el cine, fue una película viva que actuó como un faro para su público, las criaturas de la noche fueron llamadas, y respondieron a la llamada de la película, demostraron ser dedicados, apasionados e ingeniosos hasta el punto de convertir este fracaso cinematográfico en el éxito de ventas y la madre de todos los evangelios del cine de medianoche.
Si se mira bien, la mayoría de las películas de serie B nunca intentan conseguir lo que hizo esta película, pero todas sueñan con ello en sus sueños húmedos, ¿Por qué? Porque RHPS se hizo sentir viva en su tiempo, y eso despertó una base de fans, que tomaron la película y la convirtieron en lo que es hoy, crearon la ambientación y dejaron que la película hiciera su trabajo, y juntos esta película logró ser un clásico del cine de culto en sólo un par de meses con un par de labios rojos y un cantante principal de voz profunda que cualquiera podría recordar.
Fue tan influyente que hasta Los Simpson hicieron un capítulo sobre ellos, porque, para la comunidad RHPS, esta película fue la religión, para la comunidad Bisexual esta película fue el inicio del movimiento moderno, y para muchos, esta fue la primera vez que vieron algo así, para ellos, les abrió los ojos, y para el cine de medianoche, esta película cambió toda su industria y economía.

Las influencias que esta película tuvo en el movimiento bisexual fue increíble, para ser precisos la primera antología de libros abiertamente bisexuales incluyó una pieza llamada "Bisexualidad, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, y yo", por Elizabeth Reba Weise, y esto fue una reacción abierta a la influencia de la película y cómo cambió la vida de Elizabeth.
Cambiar vidas es parte de esta película tanto como la historia del cine B, la mayoría de las buenas películas en ese genero se convirtieron en películas de culto con el tiempo, pero esta película hizo un logro de cambiar un fracaso original a un gran éxito comercial y lanzarse a sí misma a la popularidad, junto con el cine B esto no es una hazaña fácil, ya que muchas de las mejores películas de B por ahí son leyendas ancestrales hoy en día.
Aquí es donde RHPS brilla aun mas fuerte, ya que se muestra fácilmente como una de las mejores películas de su género burlándose de su género, de su categoría y de sí misma, mientras mantiene en honor a todas las obras originales anteriores de las que se burló, siendo básicamente tanto una comedia como un homenaje a ellas, todo esto mientras envía un claro faro bisexual a la comunidad que estaba esperando este tipo de trabajos durante años, abriendo muchas puertas tanto a su reparto como a sus fans.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show abrió muchas puertas, pero no dejó ninguna en el armario tras ella, ya que casi todo el reparto consiguió construir una sólida carrera tras esta película, especialmente nuestra heroína Janet (Susan Sarandon), ya que consiguió impulsar su carrera y ganar un Oscar con su talento en los años siguientes y demostrar que es una de las mejores actrices de todos los tiempos. Sin embargo, verla bailar en el tiempo fue sorprendente porque alguien que viera sus películas posteriores nunca la relacionaría con un trabajo como este, y yo crecí viendo sus trabajos, imagínense mi sorpresa cuando vi esta película y su papel en ella y lo femenina y encantadora que estaba en esta película.
La feminidad es abundante en esta película, es tan exuberante y desbordante que me sorprende, ¿Por qué? Porque esta es una película de la Fox, y alguien en la Fox tenía que darles el permiso, y esa compañía era conocida por ser dura en eso, como pueden recordar casi no le dan luz verde a Star Wars, sólo recuerden ese hecho cuando vean una película como esta porque señala cuánta fe se puso en esta película y su mensaje, porque la Fox fue un ejemplo de compañía de cine sexista en su día, y que una película así salga de esa compañía es una sorpresa por sí misma.

El equipo desarrollador de esta película nunca supo muy bien cómo se convirtió en un éxito de culto, hay una entrevista con Tim Curry (Dr. Frank-N-Furter AKA el extraterrestre travestido) donde se argumenta que si la película nunca llegó a convertirse en una película de medianoche, nunca se habría convertido en un éxito de culto, ya que eran las "criaturas de la noche" el verdadero público al que iba dirigida esta película, y no van al cine de día en absoluto, la única respuesta por parte de Tim fue que ¿Quién podría haber adivinado ese giro de los acontecimientos? Nadie podía.
Supongo que todo se reduce a la sincronización y la mía no es del todo correcta, porque sé que estoy un mes demasiado temprano o un par de meses demasiado tarde, ya que este aniversario de la película se acerca a sólo un mes y unos días de esta fecha de publicación, y el mes del orgullo ya está muy atrás, sin embargo, siento que en lugar de aprovechar la sincronización voy a aprovechar mi amor por la historia del cine y el patrimonio del mismo, todos estamos de alguna manera bailando el Time Warp, ¿No es así? De un modo u otro, todos somos víctimas del tiempo y del espacio, y espero que saques tiempo para ver esta película y bailar a su ritmo una vez más.
Esta película es una de las primeras de diversidad sexual que vi y en su momento me abrió los ojos a un mundo que desconocía que existía, haciéndome un humano más tolerante y amoroso, si no te importa que te pregunte: ¿Alguna vez una película te ha hecho reflexionar sobre cómo percibes el mundo que te rodea? My friend Cisco's dad Lou produced The Rocky Horror Picture Show, everything he produced back then turned into some type of cult classic. I remember getting to see it live at the theatre with Cisco and a bunch of friends one Halloween, everyone attending dressed up too, & the cool part was that we all got to throw food and stuff on cue from the audience. Maybe the fact that it was a midnight showing with audience interaction was part of the novelty that made it such a cult classic.
OMG, you actually saw it LIVE, god damm it that is so cool, my generation had to just "have it on vhs" at best, removing most of its magic out of our reach and into dream land, I guess the midnight magic had some mayor effect on it but not even its cast was totally sure about it, yet, that sure would push a few buttons on its formula to success, btw back to the live show, why did people trowed food? That is not saved for bad films, but also to fun films? I would love to learn more about old time cinema culture, most people dint honor it enough...
The directors gave us cups of Rice and Jell-O to throw, before the show Cisco even reminded us to bring extra rice, but emphasized only to throw it when we heard a certain sound which was the cue. It was just part of the show, part of their genius marketing I guess.
Logré verla hace unos año por televisión y recuerdo que ya había oído de ella y escuchado algunas de las canciones y las historias de los personajes, pero nada como verla para entenderla y disfrutarla.

I saw it as a child when it was broadcasted on a TV channel, what I remember from that time is that visually I liked it a lot. Years later, I was already a teenager and I could enjoy it properly on VHS, at that time I used to watch it with the rockers, it was the musical genre I liked. A film with a lot of glam rock that will remain in the memory of anyone who likes different cinema. A true cult movie. On the other hand, have you had problems with the Internet? I'm doing paper works for getting Italian citizenship as my grandfather on dad side was an Italian and I got the chance to do so and also my dad and brother, so this has made me take a few extra shifts on the laundry to allow my brother and father to sign their set of the needed documents, then they did that for me, so I'm dying, and the cause of death is Bureaucracy (Also I have no evidence, but I'm sure this was invented by the devil, or Marxism, don't know which one). This is a back-up plan if Venezuela ever goes wrong, like a civil war or total collapse of its economy, and I need a way to safely pull my daughter and my fiancée (I hope, wife at that point) out of my home country, so I haven't been able to actually participate as much as I did, and before that I was just sick, there are post about it, basically I'm on a rough patch of time in my life right now.
Going back to the film, My first time seeing it was in my teens, at my 11 years if I recall correctly, with time I saw it again close to my "sexual awakening era" at 17, and I understood a lot more than just missed my eye when I was younger, from there on, it passed in front of me from time to time, mostly in group screenings or stuff like that, and the Glam Rock vibe it holds is quite literally made of thunders and gold.
