Argentine comedy has always been characterized by being acid and black. I have had the opportunity to see authentic gems like Wild Tales and Nine Queens and they are within the repertoire of the best comedies I have seen.
The film is about an Argentine writer who won the Nobel Prize for Literature. It should be said that the speech he presents at the Swedish academy is as acid as possible and a good start to the film. This standard-bearer for the Nobel Prize left his country more than 30 years ago, residing all that time in Europe, but after winning the award he received a letter from Salas, his hometown, indicating that he had been named an illustrious citizen and inviting him to be part of a ceremony and certain events.
La comedia argentina siempre se ha caracterizado por ser acida y negra. He tenido la oportunidad de ver auténticas joyas como Relatos Salvajes y Nueve Reinas y están dentro del repertorio de mejores comedias que he visto.
La película se trata de un escritor argentino ganador del premio nobel de literatura, cabe decir que el discurso que presenta en la academia sueca es de lo más acido posible y un buen inicio de película. Este abanderado del premio nobel se fue de su país hace más de 30 años residiendo todo ese tiempo en Europa pero después de ganar el premio recibe una carta de Salas, su pueblo natal, indicándole que lo han nombrado ciudadano ilustre e invitándolo a formar parte de una ceremonia y ciertos eventos.

We are talking about a film where the protagonist is a writer and therefore the film is full of intellectual humor but also a critique of the small-town dynamics that can be seen in its town Salas with shameful and not very serious moments in contrast to the personality of the acclaimed Writer.
Dentro de la trama podremos ver escenas hilarantes y con un humor negro sin igual que solo es producido por los argentinos. Hablamos de una película donde el protagonista es un escritor y por ende el film está lleno de humor intelectual pero también de una crítica hacia la dinámica pueblerina que se puede apreciar en su pueblo Salas con momentos vergonzosos y poco serios en contraste con la personalidad del aclamado escritor.
I am not criticizing the culture itself of a town but rather the small-town and closed attitude that many of the inhabitants of these places have. For the residents of Salas, the writer is like a trophy that they do not appreciate because they do not understand their work and sometimes misinterpret it. Not being a footballer it is much more difficult for the inhabitants of Salas to truly appreciate the work of the writer.
This does not rule out multiple ceremonies, one of them on top of a fire truck next to the queen of the town. This is one of the most hilarious situations in the film and also one of the most tricky.
As you will see, the writer will be faced with many situations, adversities and even his past to meet again with an old love who is currently with his best friend. This fact complicates things even more, taking them to an extreme of unnecessary violence.
No critico a la cultura en si de un pueblo sino la actitud pueblerina y cerrada que muchos de los habitantes de estos lugares tienen. Para los residentes de Salas, el escritor es como un trofeo del que no saben apreciar por no entender su trabajo y en ocasiones malinterpretarlo. No siendo un futbolista es mucho más difícil para los habitantes de Salas apreciar verdaderamente el trabajo del escritor.
Con esto no se descartan múltiples ceremonias, una de ellas encima de un camión de bomberos al lado de la reina del pueblo. Esta es una de las situaciones más hilarantes del film y también una de las más capciosas.
Como verán, el escritor se verá enfrentado a muchas situaciones, adversidades e incluso a su pasado por reencontrarse con un antiguo amor que actualmente está con su mejor amigo. Este hecho complica aún más las cosas, llevándolas a un extremo de violencia innecesaria.
The entire film is divided and narrated into five chapters as if it were a novel, giving it a touch of literary authenticity but also being part of the cynicism that the film tries to deliver.
Montavani in general is a man who can go to a certain point to be bitter. His moral and ethical vision is completely different from the citizens of Salas and on many occasions, they call him cruel and selfish. Here there is a moral struggle for the viewer because they are situations that can be valid in both senses, depending on the perception of the viewer and it is another point in favor of the film.
Toda la película está dividida y narrada en cinco capítulos como si de una novela se tratase, dándole un toque de autenticidad literario pero siendo a su vez parte del cinismo que intenta entregarnos el film.
Montavani en general es un hombre que puede llegar a cierto punto ser amargado. Su visión moral y ética es completamente distinta a los ciudadanos de Salas y en muchas ocasiones estos lo tachan de cruel y egoísta. Aquí hay una lucha moral para el espectador porque son situaciones que pueden ser validas en ambos sentidos, dependiendo de la percepción del que lo ve y es otro a punto a favor de la película.
If you are already tired of watching simple comedies or comedies to spend a relaxed February 14, you have to see this movie. I usually watch comedies that are mixed with other genres, something that in Indian cinema is very good at giving us strong emotional charges and with powerful messages. In the case of Argentine comedy, it usually offers us an acid critic but in a renovating and constructive plan, as if it were a strong slap towards ourselves.
In conclusion, The Illustrious Citizen is not a movie that will leave you indifferent, you can love it or hate it but it has a clear message that you can sense when you see it. If you want to see something different in the field of comedy, I suggest you watch it, it is a film that I recommend with my eyes closed, being beyond enjoyable.
Si ya estás cansado de ver comedias simples o comedias para pasar un 14 de febrero relajado tienes que ver esta película. Suelo ver comedias que se mezclan con otros géneros, algo que en el cine indio se da muy bien otorgándonos fuertes cargas emotivas y con mensajes poderosos. En el caso de la comedia argentina por lo general nos ofrece una crítica acida pero en plan renovador y constructivo como si de una fuerte cachetada hacia nosotros mismos se tratase.
En conclusión, El ciudadano Ilustre, no es una película que te dejara indiferente, podrás amarla u odiarla pero tiene un claro mensaje que podrás intuir cuando la veas. Si deseas ver algo diferente en el terreno de la comedia te sugiero que la veas, es una película que recomiendo con los ojos cerrados, siendo más allá de disfrutable.
Esta es una de las comedias argentinas que más he disfrutado en los últimos tiempos. Hace como un año o 2 descubrí varias comedias argentinas y hasta la fecha son de los más cómico que he visto en mi vida, de verdad que los argentinos son excelentes para hacer reir a la gente hahaha.
A pesar de que esta es buenísima, mis favoritas son mi obra maestra y La odisea de los giles. Estas 2 tienes que verlas sino las has visto. El robo del siglo también es buena pero no tanto como las 2 que mencioné primero. De verdad que te las recomiendo.
Si es una comedia negra y bastante intelectual. A mi me encantan las comedias y películas argentinas porque siempre tienen ese humor sardónico característico de su idiosincrasia. Esas que mencionas no las he visto, las voy a revisar pronto. ¿Qué opinas de nueve reinas?
