The girl in the spider's web

The girl in the spider's web is a classic 'shot in winter, female hacker' film who's been given the role of making her niche of the world right. This includes saving women from abusive men by hacking through their devices and as is the main focus of the movie, saving the world from destruction by racing against time to get a special 'firewall' program, programmed to steal nuclear weapons data from the world powers, from getting into the wrong hands.

Lisbeth Salander, is played by Claire Foy. Her character can be described as edgy with some gothic feel. Her main means of transportation is her bike, a pleasure to watch as she maneuvers, rides through frozen waters and survives a huge fire from the 'Spiders', a Russian mob group created by her late psychopathic father who was abusive towards her sister and her. It later changes to a sports car. Also black, to keep with the consistency of her style.

Lisbeth is the direct opposite of Camille Salander, who she'd left behind as a girl, after jumping several heights during winter and escaping to nothingness and more . 'The girl in the spider's web' is described as a sequel to 'The girl with the dragon tatoo', so maybe there is a bit of history explained in that film.

Superheros are often portrayed as people escaping from deep pain or suppressing it by their aloofness and Lisbeth is no different. Her pain is her sister, who's become exactly like her father. She's equally with her own pain as she felt Lisbeth could have saved her by returning to get her in the 16 years she'd been abused by their father. After all she did if for other women.

There's not much complexity in the main mission of finding the firewall program whose only means of access is a large string of numbers. Unfortunately, Fran Balder, the programmer who created it and who had hired Lisbeth in the first place in his effort to retrieve it from the Americans (and have it destroyed) before it could cause any harm, was killed by the spiders, leaving the responsibility to his genius child whose brain had been the inspiration for the password.

Thankfully, there are no gruesome torture scenes in any parts of the film as the kid is cooperative. Also, the unfolding twists ensure that the 'firewall' is taken away from the wrong hands after this event and we sort of get a happy like ending.
