Rise: The Antetokounmpo Family Story | Review

Rotten Tomatoes

cine azul.png

I thought sports movies were not my taste, but my husband's are, so every time we share a movie together there is a great chance that it is about a sport. After watching some of them like "The Williams Method" and others based on real events, I could notice that they transmit a great message of self-improvement and encourage us to fight for our goals without giving up easily and overcoming all the obstacles that come our way. And the movie "Rise" is no exception, even its name itself is a sign of that.

A Nigerian couple travels to Greece to live as migrants, where they form a family. Together they will have to get ahead in search of a better quality of life. Follow the story of the Antetokounmpo family to learn an example of self-improvement. Film based on real events.

I liked this movie, I won't say it's the best basketball movie, but it's very nice. Above all, the points that are dealt with such as migration, overcoming and family unity captured my attention.

I will begin by talking about migration; and this point comes to me because I am also a migrant and I know that it is not easy to leave the people you love, your home, your belongings, to go to an unknown country where the mere fact of being there does not assure you a better quality of life.

As the film shows, it is not so easy for a migrant to get a good job and much of what we get to do is not valued, as if it were a dishonorable job, waiting tables, cleaning houses or being independent salesmen.

It is sad, but xenophobia and racism is a problem in many parts of the world. And it is true that migration regulates the entry of people into a country to control the masses, but most people who migrate need help and support and they are still people and do not deserve to be treated as if they were inferior to others. How nice it would be if borders only divided territories and not minds and hearts.

I really liked the way they approached the subject of migration in this film, I found it very realistic, especially that we do not all have the same opportunities, even if we have very good skills. We have to wait for a good heart to notice us and reward our efforts and that doesn't happen very often.

And this goes hand in hand with the point of overcoming. The fact that we are not doing well does not mean that we should resign ourselves or give up, we should keep going forward giving the best of ourselves, doing good without expecting anything, blessings come when they have to come.

And I think that this overcoming must be accompanied by a good heart, as shown in the film, because what good is it to be successful and be empty inside. The example of this family is a lesson of that. And it is good that it is based on real facts because being able to overcome ourselves is not something fictitious, it is something possible. Personally, as a migrant, I was inspired by this film. I know that there is no point in giving up, I have to keep going until I achieve my goals. A phrase that stuck with me from the film was "it's not where you start, but where you finish".

And the third point I wanted to highlight is the family union. Because of the circumstances given in the film, I thought that at some point there was going to be a rivalry between the family, but it wasn't like that and I'm glad it didn't happen for a moment. I was relieved because I assumed it would be more of the same from other movies.

Family unity was manifested at all times and it is something that I find beautiful because when we achieve our goals we are very pleased to have had the sincere support of the family. You achieve more when you work in unity than when there is envy and selfishness among its members.

To be honest, I found the ending of the film quite predictable, but I guess that's to be expected when it comes to documenting the lives of people who make history. However, it is worth watching this film and getting to know a little more about the Antetokounmpo family and why they made this film.

Saludos, @mitag2398.

Oh a story of Giannis Antetokounmpo, the basketball player. I don't have Disney+ . a few weeks ago I saw Hustle and I'm looking forward to another sports drama about self-improvement, have you seen Hustle?

Maybe you'll be encouraged to see this movie 😁.... The movie Hustle I haven't seen yet, but I have it at the top of my list, I was supposed to see it first before this one, but my husband went ahead with Rise because I hadn't mentioned to him that I wanted to see Hustle. I have high expectations for this movie because of its actor Adam Sandler, because so far I've found the movies where he participates good and it's not about comedy, which is what we are used to from him. Let's see how it goes, maybe that will be my next review.

Greetings... 👋

Saludos... 👋

Am i glad to have seen this one before you, lol...i saw it first and my, I must say it's a good movie. It was realistic even though we know it's more of a biographical movie. . they're a lot of lessons to be learnt like Hustle (I just saw this yesterday and made a quick review today 😂😂)..

Im looking forward to your review when you finally watch Rise...I'll do another review to remind you my friend 😏..

Happy new month by the way ❤️

How nice it would be if borders only divided territories and not minds and hearts.

This words are actually very beautiful, it really got to me. I wish a lot more people could see it. It's sad how migrants are treated knowing fully when that they left their country in search of a better life. But instead of getting that, they're faced with racism and the rest..it's not something the world should be proud of.

My, I just watched this movie the day before yesterday but I really wanted to see hustle first before I do both reviews, you beat me to this one.

But your review is quite touching, the highlighted the best messages the movie was trying to pass across.. family , unity and the struggles migrants go through...

Thanks for sharing dear ❤️

I am glad you liked my lines. It is true, there is still a lot of xenophobia in the world, although we are working to eradicate it, but the important thing is what we do to show sincere love to all people, without discriminating against anyone.

I got to see this movie before Hustle, but I also had it in mind. I'm glad my post was to your liking, thanks for stopping by to read. Happy reading.
