My top favorite movies of 2022

One of the best tributes to slashers I've seen in the past year. 'X' for me has become a cult film for lovers of this genre. Its photography with saturated colors and unforgettable characters for how cold, demented and sordid they are, has left me intrigued for the other films in the saga; like 'Pearl', for example. Directed by Ti West and released by the film company A24 (the same company that released Bodies, Bodies, Bodies), this one has been a delight of gore, madness, and sex, where the story of both the protagonist and the antagonist are related, giving us an interesting plot, full of lots of blood and silly victims. I think it was one of the best recommendations I could have been given, and I'm not much of a fan of such things, but on this occasion, I'm very glad I did. Highly recommended and with an actress (Mia Goth), perfect for the role.

"Losing is very easy, but you can't imagine how hard it is to win," said a member of the Australian team. The United States had been dominating the sport of yachting, conquering all the world competitions, winning many Americas Cups, so beating them was a challenge, hence the Australian participant's comments. The New York Yacht Club had won for more than 100 years, simply unbeatable, absolute kings of the sea, but Australia had all the illusion of breaking that record, being able to snatch the title and achieve glory. This is a true story about the great Australian crew that fought hard in 1983 and managed to make history in the America's Cup competition.

(Review) The Pale Blue Eye - The darkest truth is the one that hides in plain sight

Throughout my life I have been able to see the work of incredible actors, such as Tom Hanks who has literally played a lot of roles and all of them extremely well executed. Among which I can highlight his participation in the movie Captain Phillips, Saving Private Ryan and Forrest Gump. Another actor of the same caliber who has also played a lot of roles and still maintains the total essence is Christian Bale, who throughout his life has played different iconic roles such as Jesus, a hero, a hero, a psychopath, a cop, a mobster and even a boxer. But the role I want to talk about today is his most recent film that has been released just 3 days ago and that everyone is talking about, and this film is outstanding as Chrisitan Bale still maintains that essence of excellence and quality, this new film is called The Pale Blue Eye, and tells us the events that occurred in 1830 at the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York. A film that involves many emotions and an incredible performance by Christian Bale, but let's talk a little of what the plot is about to get into context.

Pinocho, Guillermo del Toro lo Hizo de Nuevo (Sin Spoilers)

The story is much more developed than other adaptations, Geppetto is given much more character development and more reason or motive to do the things he does; I liked this too much because in other stories, this character was very empty and his actions were only to give justification to the plot, if you think about it coherently, they put Geppetto as a maniac or insane but Guillermo del Toro developed his arc much more and you get to understand too well why he creates Pinocchio and how he handles his pain. He stops being just an old carpenter who creates Pinocchio and makes a wish for no reason to the Blue Fairy and when it comes true, he accepts it without more or less; in this adaptation they give Geppetto a reason to create a wooden doll, he never asks anyone to make it real but the Blue Fairy lends him a soul for reasons that I will not say to not give spoilers; he doesn't accept the doll but as the story develops, he begins to accept it and even love it.

Alchemy of Souls: A Farewell to Anguish

At first glance, I grew curious about Cho Yeong’s road to vengeance, in disguise as Naksu the Shadow Assassin. Especially when the progressive scenarios in the first season revealed how she had lived through deceit. The end she undoubtedly envisioned all throughout her youth eventually crumbled. However, in a way that a peculiar beginning rose from its debris. She lived a life almost anew as Mudeok, a powerless maid. Although she tried to regain her life as Naksu, fate led her to a different path. Her hunger for vengeance was satiated by a love the world offered so hesitantly. With the blue marks in her eyes, she came across Jang-Uk whose soul was as raw as winter, a salvation the skies brought close to her who dwells in the same coldness. At the same time, she met a person who reminds her of an old love she buried after having cherished it fleetingly, the autumn of her past, Seo Yul. Within those unfamiliar moments, the skies were a little brighter than when she was in her former body. However, it was short-lived. Her hatred was tamed at the cost of torment. During this moment, I could only mourn alongside her. Season one of Alchemy of Souls was, in totality, a revelation of cruel redemption to Cho Yeong and Jang Uk. They were only a step behind happiness and yet they were incapacitated before even walking one foot forward.

While watching the film I already knew about the opinion obtained during its screening, so I deliberately tried to put myself in the vision of a person who is not used to watching South Korean cinema and I understood why this film ended up having such a good reception and why the director Chan Woo-Park could even be seen as one of the favorite directors to win many awards. And is that the cinema and in general the South Korean audiovisual productions, are aesthetically too striking! they take too much care of the visual details and most of them are elegant; the work itself may not have the best script, the best visual effects, maybe it's a plot already known, but the production always focuses on being really a very good photography, that the aesthetics is a beauty in its entirety and this is one of those details why I like so much the productions of that country. In this film they use a lot this characteristic element of South Koreans, it is a simple work from the point of view of the scene frames, but the approaches and the way they handle the colors, lights and shadows are what makes each of these scenes, which are really very domestic typical of Korean cinema for its realism, look so special.

Review Movies: Knives out

A gripping story where even their relatives will become the suspects of this strange event which will have the whole family showing different facets not seen before. Everyone, everyone can lie, except for one. I really loved it and I associated it a lot with the board game Clue which I loved as a child but never had the opportunity to play it, I enjoyed the movie and it doesn't feel heavy when it comes to gathering the information rather it feels exciting since you don't know exactly what is waiting for you and the best thing is that Netflix made a sequel called Glass Onion, the story is once again with detective Benoit Blanc who solves another mystery of a new murder. It is a movie with which you will be immersed in its story and will make you laugh a lot.
