Hello, fellow hive users. Today was a productive day for me, I finished Resident evil village & in the evening watched Netflix's Army of the Dead so it was a very zombified day lol. Now Army of the dead is a movie I highly anticipated & I was not disappointed its a solid, gory, entertaining zombie movie with cool visuals which is exactly what I wanted.
The Good
The fluidity of the action, Snyder's beautifully stylized yet gritty visual style makes a very interesting movie with a unique identity in its look.
The story has quite a few twists and turns, and unexpected outcomes.
The gore CGI and practical effects are fun and the alpha zombies stuff was a fun addition too.
The Bad
I wasn't expecting anything incredible story-wise and what the movie has was an average main plot with too many under-average sub-plots, especially the one involving Batista's daughter.
At 02h28m the movie was probably like 15-20 min too long.
All in all, I liked the film it Does some unique things with the zombie and heist genre. The story could use some work though.

I was gonna write a review of this but there are a ton of them already so I'll just comment here. You are much more kind to this film than I would be. I found the plot boring and it starts out just stupid... no military convoy travels with the precious cargo in the front, also when they run away after the capsule pops open instead of getting into their armored vehicles with 50 cal machine guns I just got irritated. It's kind of like how people would take the most stupid path to run away from Jason in the Friday the 13th films.
Later, way too much time was spent on senseless character development and recruiting, hence the 2 hour + runtime. From a "my living room with neighbors" perspective the whisper sequences followed by speaker destroying zombie screams is something that always irritates me, i had to watch this thing with remote always in hand. There is also continuity issues such as the "alphas" being much more difficult to kill but other than the "king and queen" they seem to be cannon fodder just like the rest of them.
The helicopter pilot not being at the meetup point only to have it emerge seconds from disaster is a direct ripoff of Aliens and probably many other films as well.
The gore was fun at times, I guess I appreciated that to some degree. Mostly, just like you I wasn't expecting much, and that is exactly what I got in the end. It was nice to see Dave Bautista getting work though, that's one upside. I have liked him since his WWE days.
I agree it was nothing exceptional but from a fun perspective, I was entertained.
Hello... On a visual level the film is great, Snayder is a genius with aesthetics and has proven it in 70% of his films.
True it has a unique identity, as it does not present the same as other Zombie movies, but it lacks some elements that makes it lower the pace and sadly clashes with the action scenes that are not solid as wanting to introduce so many different situations makes the action just a passage back and forth, without much impact.
Of course this doesn't mean it's a bad movie, of course not, but it's not the best either and it doesn't have many twists that will blow your mind, it's a movie that tells a Zombie story but in a different way.

I kinda agree with you It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either the interactions between the characters felt really fake at times too. But i found the action and special effects pretty good thanks for commenting
Of course, visually it's great, but that's what usually happens in this kind of movies.
