Being a prisoner and enduring the conditions in a jail is a tough guy thing... but being a political prisoner, falling into a maximum security prison and escaping beautifully, is art.
Ser un preso y soportar las condiciones en una carcel, es una cosa de tipos duros… pero ser un preso político, caer en una carcel de máxima seguridad y escapar maravillosamente, es arte.
Although this film is a bit of a novelty for the genre, it achieves its goal: to keep the viewer in suspense. The Escape from Pretoria is a book in which the protagonist himself, Tim Jenkin, narrates his story of struggle and which was transformed into a film showing a reprisal against the -aburd- segregation and racism policies of the 60s in South Africa. Although Jenkin himself argued that the film no longer made sense to make it because so much time had passed (more than 40 years ago) since the escape and the movement to which he belonged had already disbanded; all the strength and "freedom" he had now to show what he lived, he needed at that time, but the film companies that had contacted him only wanted to show the exploits and not the part of the political system.
A pesar de que este film no tenga tantas novedades para el género, logra su cometido: mantener en suspenso al espectador. La Fuga de Pretoria es un libro donde el mismo protagonista, Tim Jenkin, narra su historia de lucha y que se transformó en película donde se muestra una represalia ante las –aburdas- políticas de segregación y rasismo de los 60 en Sudáfrica. Aunque el mismo Jenkin argumentó que la película ya no tenía tanto sentido hacerla por tanto tiempo que pasó (hace más de 40 años) desde la fuga y el movimiento al que pertenecía ya se había disuelto; toda la fuerza y la “libertad” que tuvo ahora para poder mostrar lo que vivió, la necesitaba en aquel entonces, pero las cinematográficas que se había puesto en contacto con él solo querían las azañas y no mostrar la parte del sistema político.
The adored and eternal Harry Potter⚡️, Daniel Radcliffe, plays the activist of the Anti-Apartheid Movement (anti-racial segregation) along with Daniel Webber, his partner in the same movement, are sentenced to prison for 12 and 8 years respectively and incidentally are accused of treason to their race. Once in the prison for white men, they are removed by the same inmates for being defenders of black people so Tim does not intend to stay long in that place, he still has many reasons to fight outside. He spends the days studying possible exits but each one is more complicated or impossible than the previous one, it is true what the other inmates said about Pretoria Prison: with luck they give you another 25 years for trying to get out, if not they put a bullet between your eyes; after a while, he knew: they would get out through the gates. No one believed he could make it, but once again he proves that ingenuity and a strong ideal to fight for can outlast the bars.
El adorado y eterno Harry Potter⚡️, Daniel Radcliffe, encarna al activista del Movimiento en AntiApartheid (anti segregación racial) junto a Daniel Webber, su compañero dentro del mismo movimiento, son condenados a prisión por 12 y 8 años respectivamente y de paso son acusado por traición a su raza. Una vez estando en la prisión para hombres blancos, son apartados por los mismo reclusos por ser defensores de la gente negra por lo que Tim no pretende estar mucho tiempo en ese lugar, aún tiene muchas razones por las que luchar afuera. Pasa los días estudiando posibles salidas pero cada una es más complicada o imposible que la anterior, es verdad lo que decían los otros reclusos sobre la Prisión de Pretoria: con suerte te dan otros 25 años por intentar salir, si no es que te meten un balazo entre los ojos; al cabo de un tiempo, lo supo: saldrían por las puertas. Nadie le creía que podría lograrlo, pero una vez más se demuestra que el ingenio y un fuerte ideal por el cual luchar, pueden más que los barrotes.
Throughout the whole movie, you can feel the tense and strong atmosphere at all times, sometimes I even had to stop to breathe a little to pass the scare with Daniel, and I also branded him as crazy, I did not believe he could achieve all that in such a way, so at the beginning of the post I mentioned that it was art. A few days ago I saw it again, and that's why I decided to tell you about it, so as I always say: if you haven't seen it, see it, and if you have already seen it, do it again, you won't lose anything.
A lo largo de toda la película, se puede sentir el ambiente tenso y fuerte en todo momento, algunas veces hasta me tenía que parar a respirar un poco para pasar el susto junto a Daniel, y también lo tachaba de loco, no me creía que pudiera lograr todo eso de tal forma, por eso al principio del post mencioné que era arte. Hace unos días la ví nuevamente, y por eso me animé a contarles sobre ella, así que como siempre les digo: si no la han visto, veánla, y si ya la vieron, hagánlo de nuevo que no tiene perdida de nada.
