The Umbrella Academy is an American superhero TV series based on the same comic book series of the same name. Its third season has just been released last week, on June 22nd, 2022. Each season has 10 episodes with run time of about 50 mins. And it is exclusive to the streaming service Netflix*.
I know, I know. You have probably wondered, "What in the world is The Umbrella Academy?" if you have not seen it already. And if you have seen it, you may have also thought so before starting it.
Well, that's exactly what I thought when I first heard about it. And, to be honest, it was not something that seemed worth getting excited about. My opinion of it at first was even worse after seeing the first few minutes of the pilot episode.
Yes, I know, I judged too quickly. But what was I supposed to think when the first thing I saw was a lady giving birth to a baby right after getting out of the pool, without having been pregnant earlier that day? Quite an absurd movie plot, if you had asked me then.
I have given a little spoiler about the intro, but I promise it is only a tiny bit of a small portion of the iceberg (you get it?). Because the whole series is actually about much more than that.
But with all that said, it still isn't enough to judge the series and conclude on seeing it or not. So, without further ado, journey with me as we walk through this review together.
On October 1, 1989, 43 random women all around the world gave birth at the exact same time, and none of them had been pregnant earlier that day. A billionaire, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, travels around to gather some of them for adoption; he only got seven of them. He turned them into a team of super heroes and called them "The Umbrella Academy."
As individuals of the Hargreeves family, they were each imperfect, contrary to their (adoptive) father's ambition for them. And all together, they form a dysfunctional family headed by a cold-hearted father.

It then happens that one of the children travels into the distant future and is presumed dead for years. Upon his return, he had already spent decades, and now claims an apocalypse that will cause a global catastrophic disaster is impending. Also, their father, Sir Reginald, is mysteriously killed.
The estranged family must now come together to solve the mystery surrounding their father's death, and more importantly, figure out how to avert the imminent apocalypse to save the world from total annhilation. But they are faced with opposition from a council of time governors with orders to eliminate them.
They fall apart every time due to their divergent personalities and abilities, but somehow work together and try to save the world in a manner far from impeccable.
As they continue to find ways to save the future of humanity, deep secrets about each of them, including their late father and his mysterious death, are unraveled. New discoveries are made about their abilities, and time travel is used on a regular basis. But they had no idea that saving the world would result in its destruction and that they would have to save it again and again.
Initially, it took a while to begin to wrap my head around the series. This is not to say that it has a somewhat complex storyline that takes time to understand, but that it really was not how I could have anticipated it.
Seeing that it was about super powers and concepts of that nature, I immediately assumed it would be like Marvel's kinds of movies. But it really isn't like that. In fact, it is based on the true story of a dysfunctional family that manages to function as a unit and do the most important thing: save the world! And all that super hero stuff is more like the colours on a picture,
The series portrays a story that centers upon the concept of "cause and effect." This is an example of how each of our individual actions, no matter how small they may be, can have a great impact on the outcome of things to come. It does this by using the concept of time-travel to show the relationship between actions and their results.
It also shows how important "letting things go" is, in the sense that wishing to go back in time to fix one's past mistakes may not even be the best method to consider in setting things straight. Letting things go and accepting things may just do the trick, as it is popularly understood, "time will heal".
The Umbrella Academy
The Umbrella Academy employs a time-traveling adventure in the 1980s and 2000s. does well to represent both times adequately. And, somehow, it manages to balance comedy with action; brilliantly, if you ask me.
I am a very big fan of time-related concepts. So to see theories and paradoxes well depicted with detail is something I very much appreciate (I'm a fanatic in fact).
My favourite paradox is the "Grandfather Paradox". And the third season was built mostly on it. Say, you go back in time to murder your grandfather before your father (your grandfather's son) was to be born. You would in fact cease to exist. But if you never existed, you could not have gone back in time to murder him in the first place. So, you see, we would have a problem.
Pardon my nerdiness, dear reader, if you will. Now, let's go a bit deeper into serving justice to this review:
The whole story may sound simple, but it isn't quite that. There are quite a number of diverse little stories that make up the main story. So, if one does not pay attention to the subtle details one may find as the series goes, you may begin to question a lot of things as they unravel. But I assure you, it's nothing complex, but rather quite exciting and thrilling.
And with all this being said, it is natural to say that the story is not quite easy to predict. There's no telling how exactly the end would proceed, and this happened for all three seasons.
Yet, in all the mix, consistency was not left out. Accolades to the directors and producers for their brilliance.
One very overlooked but super important aspect of filmmaking is how the story is presented to the eyes of the audience.
To deliver excellent visuals in all episodes throughout three seasons is something to be appreciated. And I hand it to them for a job well done.
There were many gory scenes throughout the whole series, but they were not overly done. I would say that they were just necessary, so prepare for them if you're going to see the series.
Dear reader, you will agree with me that the performances of the actors and actresses are the biggest contributors to selling the story of any film to its audience.
Every actor in this film must have been scrutinized before being chosen. And I'd like to first commend Aidan Gallagher.
Aidan is quite a young fellow. Yet, he handles the role of a 58-year-old man in a 13-year old body. This is not the first time that I have seen him perform with impeccable style, and I know that this will not be the last of it.

Another that I would like to add is Elliot Page. He (formerly Ellen Page) is an incredible actor who, even while transgender, handled the female character well.

And the producers were able to make her character also reflect this transgender phase; it was seamless.
The Umbrella Academy is the kind of series that requires some patience at the beginning to truly follow along and enjoy the brilliance in it.
From the closure that we got from the third season, and considering how well it has been doing over the years, it does seem like we could be in for one more treat in a fourth season. Although the third season took two whole years to be released, we are likely to get the fourth season sooner this time.
It definitely would receive many different perspectives, but I believe the resultant of them all would be "worth the time". Yet again, there is the whole floor for you to decide for yourself with all that is said here if you would give it a try.

Lo sé, lo sé. Seguramente te habrás preguntado: "¿Qué demonios es La Academia Umbrella?" si no la has visto ya. Y si la has visto, puede que también lo hayas pensado antes de empezarla.
Pues eso es exactamente lo que pensé yo cuando oí hablar de ella por primera vez. Y, para ser sincero, no era algo que me pareciera digno de emocionarse. Mi opinión al principio fue aún peor después de ver los primeros minutos del episodio piloto.
Sí, lo sé, juzgué demasiado rápido. Pero, ¿qué debía pensar cuando lo primero que vi fue a una señora dando a luz a un bebé nada más salir de la piscina, sin haber estado embarazada antes ese mismo día? Un argumento de película bastante absurdo, si me hubieran preguntado entonces.
He dado un pequeño spoiler sobre la introducción, pero prometo que es sólo una pequeña porción del iceberg (¿lo entiendes?). Porque en realidad toda la serie trata de mucho más que eso.
Pero con todo lo dicho, aún no es suficiente para juzgar la serie y concluir en verla o no. Así que, sin más preámbulos, viajen conmigo mientras recorremos juntos esta reseña.
El 1 de octubre de 1989, 43 mujeres al azar de todo el mundo dan a luz exactamente a la misma hora, y ninguna de ellas había estado embarazada ese mismo día. Un multimillonario, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, viaja para reunir a algunas de ellas para darlas en adopción; sólo consiguió a siete de ellas. Los convirtió en un equipo de superhéroes y los llamó "La Academia Umbrella".
Como individuos de la familia Hargreeves, cada uno era imperfecto, al contrario de lo que su padre (adoptivo) ambicionaba para ellos. Y todos juntos, forman una familia disfuncional encabezada por un padre de corazón frío.

Sucede entonces que uno de los niños viaja al futuro lejano y se le da por muerto durante años. A su regreso, ya había pasado décadas, y ahora afirma que es inminente un apocalipsis que provocará un desastre catastrófico mundial. Además, su padre, Sir Reginald, muere misteriosamente.
La familia distanciada debe reunirse para resolver el misterio que rodea la muerte de su padre y, lo que es más importante, averiguar cómo evitar el inminente apocalipsis para salvar al mundo de la aniquilación total. Pero se enfrentan a la oposición de un consejo de gobernantes del tiempo con órdenes de eliminarlos.
Cada vez se desmoronan debido a sus personalidades y habilidades divergentes, pero de alguna manera trabajan juntos e intentan salvar el mundo de una manera nada impecable.
Mientras siguen buscando formas de salvar el futuro de la humanidad, se desvelan profundos secretos sobre cada uno de ellos, incluido su difunto padre y su misteriosa muerte. Se hacen nuevos descubrimientos sobre sus habilidades, y el viaje en el tiempo se utiliza de forma habitual. Al principio, me costó un poco empezar a entender la serie. Esto no quiere decir que tenga un argumento algo complejo que requiera tiempo para entenderlo, sino que realmente no era como lo había previsto.
Al ver que se trataba de superpoderes y conceptos de esa naturaleza, inmediatamente asumí que sería como el tipo de películas de Marvel. Pero realmente no es así. De hecho, se basa en la historia real de una familia disfuncional que consigue funcionar como una unidad y hacer lo más importante: ¡salvar el mundo! Y todo eso de los superhéroes se parece más a los colores de un cuadro.
La serie retrata una historia que se centra en el concepto de "causa y efecto". Se trata de un ejemplo de cómo cada una de nuestras acciones individuales, por pequeñas que sean, pueden tener un gran impacto en el resultado de las cosas por venir. Para ello, utiliza el concepto de viaje en el tiempo para mostrar la relación entre las acciones y sus resultados.
También muestra lo importante que es "dejar pasar" las cosas, en el sentido de que querer volver atrás en el tiempo para arreglar los errores del pasado puede no ser ni siquiera el mejor método a considerar para enderezar las cosas. Dejar pasar las cosas y aceptarlas puede ser la solución, ya que, como se suele decir, "el tiempo cura".

La Academia Umbrella emplea una aventura de viaje en el tiempo en los años 80 y 2000. hace bien en representar adecuadamente ambas épocas. Y, de alguna manera, consigue equilibrar la comedia con la acción; de forma brillante, en mi opinión.
Soy un gran fan de los conceptos relacionados con el tiempo. Así que ver teorías y paradojas bien representadas con detalle es algo que aprecio mucho (soy un fanático, de hecho).
Mi paradoja favorita es la "Paradoja del Abuelo ". Y la tercera temporada se basó principalmente en ella. Digamos que retrocedes en el tiempo para asesinar a tu abuelo antes de que nazca tu padre (el hijo de tu abuelo). De hecho, dejarías de existir. Pero si nunca hubieras existido, no podrías haber retrocedido en el tiempo para asesinarle en primer lugar. Así que, como ves, tendríamos un problema.
Perdone mi nerdismo, querido lector, si quiere. Ahora, profundicemos un poco más en hacer justicia a esta crítica:
Toda la historia puede parecer sencilla, pero no lo es tanto. Hay un buen número de pequeñas historias diversas que conforman la historia principal. Por eso, si uno no presta atención a los sutiles detalles que se van encontrando a medida que avanza la serie, puede empezar a cuestionarse muchas cosas a medida que se van desvelando. Pero os aseguro que no es nada complejo, sino bastante emocionante y excitante.
Y dicho todo esto, es natural decir que la historia no es del todo fácil de predecir. No se sabe con exactitud cómo será el final, y esto ocurrió en las tres temporadas.
Sin embargo, en toda la mezcla, no se dejó de lado la coherencia. Hay que felicitar a los directores y productores por su brillantez.
Un aspecto muy ignorado, pero superimportante, de la realización de una película es cómo se presenta la historia a los ojos del público.
Ofrecer unos efectos visuales excelentes en todos los episodios a lo largo de tres temporadas es algo que hay que apreciar. Y les felicito por un trabajo bien hecho.
Hubo muchas escenas sangrientas a lo largo de toda la serie, pero no fueron excesivas. Yo diría que eran simplemente necesarias, así que prepárate para ellas si vas a ver la serie.
Querido lector, estarás de acuerdo conmigo en que las interpretaciones de los actores y actrices son las que más contribuyen a vender la historia de cualquier película a su público.
Cada uno de los actores de esta película debe haber sido escudriñado antes de ser elegido. Y me gustaría elogiar primero a Aidan Gallagher.
Aidan es un tipo bastante joven. Sin embargo, maneja el papel de un hombre de 58 años en un cuerpo de 13 años. No es la primera vez que le veo actuar con un estilo impecable, y sé que no será la última.

Otro que me gustaría añadir es Elliot Page. Él (antes Ellen Page) es un actor increíble que, incluso siendo transgénero, manejó bien el personaje femenino.

Y los productores fueron capaces de hacer que su personaje reflejara también esta fase transgénero; fue perfecto.
La Academia Umbrella es el tipo de serie que requiere algo de paciencia al principio para poder seguirla de verdad y disfrutar de su brillantez.
Por el cierre de la tercera temporada, y teniendo en cuenta lo bien que ha funcionado a lo largo de los años, parece que la cuarta temporada podría ser un regalo más. Aunque la tercera temporada tardó dos años enteros en estrenarse, es probable que esta vez tengamos la cuarta temporada antes.
Definitivamente recibiría muchas perspectivas diferentes, pero creo que el resultado de todas ellas "merecería la pena". Una vez más, con todo lo que se ha dicho aquí, está todo el piso para que usted decida por sí mismo si le da una oportunidad.

Great review, my brother-in-law talked to me about this series yesterday and I saw it also pass in a thumbnail on youtube. I'm certainly considering watching it more now even though I'm not sure that I will find the time to do so. Keep up the great stuff!
The series is type people are quite skeptical about. And I understand that it probably is because of the whole idea if superpowers, the kids being the center of it, and the surreal events that are tied with the whole story.

Coincidentally yesterday a group of users in the discrod community were talking about this series and its new season. I'll be honest, although I'm fascinated by time travel, I haven't seen this one because I don't really like series with children or teenagers as main characters. for example, I haven't seen anything of Stranger Hings. maybe in the future I'll see it, when the series has a definitive ending.
I totally understand the dislike for series with kids as main characters, I can relate. But sometimes, there are just some brilliant works that could make one bend one's rules and reconsider.
The case is so for me. I didn't consider Stranger things till 3 years after its starting. And I got hooked.

Un 9 de 10 es bastante. Antes era muy fanática de My chemical romance y de Gerard Way por lo que me llamaba la atención su cómic y deseaba que saliera alguna película o serie basado en el, sin embargo, con el tiempo me olvidé de tal obra. Ahora que existe no me llamaba la atención verla 😂🤣😂 hasta que estuve viendo videos cortos en facebook y el actor Aidan Gallagher llamó mi atención, parece ser un joven que promete bastante.
Antes de esta publicación no había leído nada al respecto, así que ahora me hago una idea más o menos de lo que trata esta serie.
Sería interesante y algo caótico mirar una serie de una familia disfuncional viajando en el tiempo e intentando salvar el mundo. Seguro que me encuentro con una joyita, pese a que también he leído comentarios malos de la misma.

Their father who is an alien… up on that building with his first love that died since season 1 … are they all dead and they don’t know ..

Recientemente acabo de ver la tercera temporada y no se peor me pareció un poco floja, me aburrió, quería ver más acción pero no la hubo 😅
Realmente es una serie muy intrigante, el desenlace de esta última temporada fue increíble. Lo único que no me gusta es una característica de muchas producciones de netflix, que es el hecho de que un final de temporada siempre deja más preguntas que las anteriores. Entiendo la necesidad de un gancho para la secuela, pero es totalmente exagerado lo mucho que deja perdido al espectador.
