Synopsis
After Life it's a short series about a Man called Tony who loses his wife, struggles with depression and tries to commit suicide more than once, after not being able to do it he decides to go on with a life where he does and says everything he wants to anyone.
Written, Directed and Protagonized by Ricky Gervais, only counts with 2 seasons 6 episodes each, and not a clear sign about any 3rd season (in my opinion am not really shure if the series needs more episodes).
Review
After Life it's a very instronspective series about sadness and depression, but not in all ways, not like an awareness series about the issue, more like the story of a man who struggles with all the pain inside of him after losing his wife, his reason to live, to exist, to keep moving on.
This series has a small amount of characters, they are developed through the episodes but not in any dramatic way, as i said it's only 12 episodes. The characters exist to complement the protagonist, because most of them want to see Tony do well again, and to not struggle with his pain anymore. Most of the characters are loving and caring, everyone with their own problems and lifes that are very well described and shown throughout the whole series.
Even has a small amount of scenarios or sets, filmed in England, only has a few sets for recording, this scenarios are very recurrent and it's where the story and the series it's developed.
The series has this humor revolving around Tony being really disrespectful towards other people, saying stuff that other people don't say, because they don't want to be "rude", as Tony says, "death it's the worse thing that could happen, and i don't mind dying".
But it has this dark humour, the series say the stuff maybe the spectator don't want to hear or see, a family dressing his son as Hitler to be on a local newspaper, jokes about suicide, death, pedophiles, religion, gender. So the series treats the spectator the same way it handles the people inside the show, with dark humour and no censorship, this comes to fruiton because of Ricky Gervais humour, as we know he wrote the script.
Whi all this being said, we have to highlight the instrospective part of the series, the sadness of the protagonist, and the sadness around the characters. Tony describes the pain of living without his wife very often, in monologues without cut trying to explain this pain to other people, telling anecdotes of living with the love of his life, and remembering this times of happiness, and a life that it's no longer worth living for him.
In other side, we are reminded a very key phrase in the series, because Tony it's the protagonist, we know his pain, and we feel sorry for him, we feel sad. But the other characters have a depth too, a phrase mostly reminded by Matt his brother in-law "other people have problems too, it's not always about you". This phrase it's about not being rude to everyone just for the sake of it, just for the sake of being rude with that person who was rude to you, because we are all people, everyone has a bad day, maybe even a really shitty life aswell. Maybe someone it's grumpy today, but inside he's actually sad cause something happened with his family, or life in general, that friend, that work colleague, everyone has feelings.
Conclusion
After Life it's equal parts funny and sad, this series gave me a laugh, and made me tear up. I recommend it, it's very short with episodes below the 30min mark, and just 12 episodes in total, and without any sign of more episodes really.
So if you don't have anything to see, or don't want to see a complicated, and long series this one it's for you, beware it's sad, but instrospective aswell as happy and funny.

After Life es una mini-serie sobre un hombre llamado Tony quien pierde a su esposa y por esa razón lidia con depresión y trata de cometer suicidio más de una vez, luego de no ser capaz de hacerlo decide vivir una vida en la que hace y dice lo que quiera a todo el mundo.
Escrito, dirigido y protagonizado por Ricky Gervais, solo cuenta con 2 temporadas, 6 episodios cada uno y sin señal de tener una 3era temporada (aunque en mi opinión no estaría muy seguro si necesita una 3era).

After Life es una serie muy instrospectiva sobre la tristeza y la depresión, pero no en todas sus facetas, no es como una serie para concienciar sobre el problema, más bien es una historia sobre un hombre que lidia con el dolor dentro de él después de perder su esposa, su razón para vivir, para existir, para seguir viviendo.
La serie tiene una pequeña cantidad de personajes, que se desarollan con los episodios, pero no de una manera muy drástica ni dramática, como digo son solo 12 espisodios. Los personajes existen para complementar al protagonista, porque la mayoría de ellos solo quieren que Tony esté bien otra vez, y que ya no sufra tanto. La mayoría de los personajes son amorosos y preocupados, todos tienen sus propios problemas y sus vidas, que están bien descritas y mostradas a lo largo de la serie.
Inclusive tiene una pequeña cantidad de escenarios y/o sets, filmado en Inglatera solo tiene unas poca localizaciones, éstos escenarios son bastante recurrentes y es donde la historia se desarrolla.
Ésta serie éste humor alrededor de Tony siendo bastante irrespetoso hacia las otras personas, diciendo cosas que las otras personas no quieren decir, por el miedo de ser "maleducado", pero como dice Tony "Lo que peor puede pasar es la muerte, y no me importaría morir".
Pero tiene éste humor negro, la serie dice también cosas o trata temas que a lo mejor el espectador no quiere ver u oir, asi como: una familia vistiendo a su bebé como Hitler solo para salir en el periódico local, chistes sobre suicidio, muerte, pedófilos, religiones, géneros. Así que la serie trata al espectador de la misma manera que trata a las persona dentro dde la serie, con humor negro y sin ningún tipo de censura, ésto viene a cuento por el humor que tiene personalmente Ricky Gervais, que como ya sabemos escribió el guión.
Dicho todo ésto, tenemos que también recalcar la parte instrospectiva de la serie, la tristeza del protagonista, y la tristeza que alrededor de los personajes. Tony describe el dolor de vivir sin su esposa bastante a menudo, en monólogos sin corte tratando de explicar éste dicho dolor a las personas, contando anécdotas de vivir con el amor de su vida, y recordando los tiempos felices en una vida que para él no tiene sentido seguir viviendo.
Por otra parte, la serie nos recuerda una serie bastante clave en todo ésto, porque Tony es el protagonista, sabemos su dolor y sentimos pena pr él, sentimos la tristeza. Pero los otros personajes tienen trasfondo también, una frase recordada más que todo por Matt su cuñado "las otras personas también tienen problemas, no siempre se trata de ti". Ésta frase trata sobre no ser maleducado a todos por el simple hecho de serlo, solo porque la otra persona también lo fue y necesitamos devolverlo, todos somos personas, todos podemos tener un mal días, inclusive tener una vida de mierda. A lo mejor alguien es gruñón hoy, pero por dentro está triste porque le ocurrió algo con su familia o su vida en general, ese amigo, ese colega de trabajo, todos tiene sentimientos.
Conclusión
After Life es triste y graciosa a partes iguales, la serie me sacó una carcajada como me sacó una lágrima. La recomiendo, es una serie corta con episodios que duran menos de 30min cada uno, y solo 12 episodios en total, sin signos de más episodios realmente.
Así que si no tienes nada que ver, o no quieres ver nada complicado y largo, pues aquí la tienes. Te advierto, es triste, pero instrospectiva como también feliz y graciosa.

Ricky Gervais es uno de mis comediantes favoritos. Me encanta el humor negro y corrosivo. políticamente incorrecto.
Si, a mi encanta también, me gusto mucho verlo en un rol en donde pudo escribir un guión profundo e instrospectivo, algo sentimental pero a la vez implementando ese humor que lo caracteriza.
