I have so many thriller and investigation dramas on my list. All of them are South Korean dramas. It's been a since I have avoided romantic drama cause it was clingy and sometimes not in the logic line, in my opinion. I think investigation dramas are more realistic and make us more aware about the bad guy is real.
Recently I accomplished an investigation drama. It is a light-investigation drama wrapped in comedy. The drama was Inspector Koo.
It was a woman-centric drama who's the star by Lee Young Ae.
When A Criminal Decent To Die by Serial Killer
Have you ever figured out a proper punishment for a criminal? Have you ever imagined that you are their punisher? Do you believe in how the law works?
If you ever thought about killing criminals, you are identified as a serial killer.
So, this drama told about former inspector Koo Kyung Yi who's smart and had excellent intuition as a police officer. But after her husband passed away, her life become undirected. She has become addicted to the game. She even never takes a shower.
One day, her junior named Na Je Hui asked her to join as an insurance investigator. She was asked to investigate a customer who disappeared suddenly. She finally found out that the customer was a liar. He's pretending to be dead so that the insurance can be disbursed. Accidently, when he wanna hiding from Inspector Koo, his hiding place exploded and he died.
In the same place, there's a girl name Song Kyung Yi who is identified as the killer of that customer.
Yup, the serial killer was Song Kyung Yi, a student where Inspector Koo's husband teaches. The school scene tucked into several scenes apparently Song Kyung Yi history, when her first murder.
The scene's then moving out to Son Kyung Yi's life. She was an orphan raised by his aunt. In high school, she had killed a criminal who she thought deserved to die. The way he killed his victims was inspired by fairy tales such as Medusa, Gretel and Hansel, Little Red Riding Hood, and others. She will buy another storybook and kill the next target in the same way the book tells him.
After one case, Inspector Koo has become a private detective and starts chasing 'K', Song Kyung Yi. 'K' is a smart serial killer. She killed her target without touching it. In one case, he killed a sexual abuser with chemicals. Fortunately, Inspector Koo knew about chemicals addictive, so she can identify traces of K when poisoning the victim.
K's arrest is a long story. even when everyone knew K's true identity, Inspector Koo couldn't catch him either. 'K' or Song Yi Kyung is good at running and hiding.
The most touching episode is when Song Yi Kyung's favorite aunt is accidentally involved in the mayor's assassination plan. His aunt was also accidentally killed in the mission. Song Yi Kyung was devastated. Even so, his mission to kill the bad guys didn't stop. after he came out of his deep sadness, Song Yi Kyung again launched the action.
Besides, Song Yi Kyung =has a mental illness in which he cannot feel sad. He will always be happy in any situation. Her mother died because his father killed her mother, and his father committed suicide after killing her mother. Then she disappeared for a few days in the forest. Her aunt had taken him to a psychiatrist since childhood but Song Yi Kyung remained that way. How sad.
In the middle story, there is a plot twist. Na Je Hui isn't chasing 'K' with the same purpose as Inspector K. She is an accomplice of an old woman named Yong Sook who wants her son to be mayor and wants to cover up her youngest son's crimes. When knowing it, Inspector Koo Kyung Yi felt betrayed. She goes after Song Yi Kyung again with the remaining members and almost dies from it.
Drama With The Three Main Characters are Very Character
I appreciated the writer which created the three main characters in this drama who are very strong. It's not about the three main characters, other characters like NT Life insurance members had strong characters.
Among all characters in this drama, I am most interested in Santa. He is the youngest, partner of Inspector Koo and a very loyal person. He even took care of Inspector Koo. But he can't speak. He always needs phone help to say anything to others.
But in the middle drama, He suddenly can make a voice. It makes me goosebumps. What happened with him so he hide his actual identity and become a liar. Until the end of the episodes, the true story about Santa is never revealed.
Other than that, I'm interested in how serial killer killed their target and how did she kill them. It's not a common way and proved that the killer is smart. She killed without touching the targets. I've appreciated and respected the writer.
It is a light drama even though has a thriller as its genre.
There are Black Holes
Even though I like this drama, I found out how much black holes in this drama. Unfortunately, those holes are the important things. It was about Who is Santa actually?, How can Inspector Koo's husband suicide?, and When Inspector Koo knows that there is sabotage in her husband's suicide, which is a murder, she never chases and investigated it?.
How can she skip all things?
Is that possible for the second season would appear?
This is the only investigated drama that does not involve the police institution at all. How can? I know it is about a private detective, but why does skip the institution?
However, this drama is worth watching cause you could be entertained by this drama.
