I think more than one has had or has that endless list of movies and series that have been recommended by friends and family. The truth is that saying "I'll see it later" or "I have it pending on my list" are among the most typical phrases. I am of course no exception, I have quite a long list that I don't know if I will ever be able to see in its entirety.
The truth is that for one reason or another I finally decided to see this production. In this particular case I had pending for years, literally, to see one of the most acclaimed works of science fiction by Christopher Nolan, that's right, I'm talking about "Interstellar".
It is strange because this genre and for what the title says, fits perfectly into my tastes in movies, but for various reasons I had not given it the opportunity. It is not a short movie exactly, it lasts more or less about 2 hours and 48 minutes, almost 3 hours on the screen can only mean that it is either very good or it is simply a very long work which in ovations tends to bore.
When this movie was released in 2014 I remember many acquaintances went to see it at the cinema and comments like "People were leaving the theater halfway through the movie", "It's too long", "It's too slow and boring". In short, all those kinds of opinions that discourage you and you lose the desire to see it.
As the years went by, this movie kept appearing in the tops of the resulting films, even many podcasts that I follow give very good impressions of Interstellar. It is then that I entered into a dilemma between seeing it or simply settling for the little I had heard.
After years of denial I decided to give it a chance and set aside some time because let's remember, it's a very long movie. After 8 years of its release I finally saw it and I feel quite satisfied, in fact, I could easily place it among my list of favorite movies.
Of course, Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite directors and this film leaves his signature without a doubt. Nolan is someone who in this world has been quite polarized by critics. For many he produces masterpieces, for others he makes overly complicated puzzles.
In my opinion, Interstellar is a story that deals with a highly complex subject matter since we will see topics such as: quantum physics, the theory of relativity, space travel, philosophy, human extinction, astronomy, that is, a whole cocktail of arguments that can blow your mind but, because of how the narrative is put together, it seems to me that everything is quite well woven and the ideas are easy to follow.
Interstellar - The Context
Interstellar is part of that group of films in which the message of a dystopian, apocalyptic, "we're all going to die" world is quite clear. It is curious to see how this type of scenario is repeated over and over again. Worlds like Mad Max, Maze Runner, The Hunger Games (just to mention a few) have been the thread to pull from over the last decade.
It is evident that sooner or later humanity will face one of these situations (perhaps not as rustically as it is portrayed on the big screen) as our world certainly has limited resources and the world population continues its exponential growth. This inspiration of the "end of the world" has served a lot to shape or give us an idea of what the future holds for us.
Interstellar is set in this context, a planet Earth that for "mysterious" reasons has devolved. The main sources of energy seem to have been diminished and even worse, food reserves have had a dramatic fall being wheat, corn and other items the main affected. In other words, civilization is on the verge of a massive famine.
Due to the phenomena that punish the planet, today's society has been adapting to the new needs. In the film we see how the vast majority of professions have fallen into disuse because the main concern of the population these days is food, so the return to farms and the development of crops is the main economic activity.
You can also see that contrast between the old and the more futuristic. There are people who refuse this return to the farm and continue to develop new technologies that can help humanity. Our protagonist is in that middle ground. An experienced NASA pilot with great engineering skills struggles to get his family through the current chaos.
Hope
For unknown reasons the daughter of our protagonist receives some coordinates in her room. At first there is talk of "a ghost" but this statement conflicts with the father's scientific thinking but nevertheless, and as in any good adventure movie, the characters follow these coordinates to find out what it's all about.
When they arrive at the site, they discover that it is a NASA base, a big surprise because it was assumed that this organization had discontinued its activities, which apparently is true but a small group remained behind the shadows trying to find the solution to the world problem.
Something that struck me greatly was that in a conversation with the director of that group and the protagonist something like "we did not agree to continue dropping bombs and killing people" is mentioned, which explicitly suggests that to ensure the survival of the human species radical controls were carried out.
You see, in difficult times the best and the worst of human beings always come to the fore.
The plot continues and it is revealed that in these facilities the "Lazarus" mission is being carried out, a project of interstellar exploration which seeks to find new habitable planets since the earth's days are numbered. At this point the neutral protagonist is recruited to lead the mission and embark for the future of humanity. This decision comes into conflict with his family as the interstellar journey involves years of exploration and due to the effects of relativity time will pass faster on earth than in outer space, a nod to the twin paradox, a recurring theme in physics.
With his bags packed, the hero of the story sets off with his team on an unprecedented journey. The director of the whole operation however, keeps a secret that years later will give a twist to the whole plot.
The exploration
At this stage, the crew with the help of "anomalies" in space-time manages to travel astronomical distances and a couple of worlds are explored in which they will face new challenges. On this journey, many philosophical arguments are touched upon and a scenario that no human has ever even considered.
On the ship there will be high tensions between the companions and the authority of each of the members will be questioned.
During this part of the film I felt an overwhelming vertigo. It's as if I was putting myself in the shoes of the crew members, it gave me a rather overwhelming feeling. The empty, ethereal space is a sensation that can cloud your judgment as you realize how tiny and insignificant we are compared to the vastness of nothingness.
Several twists and turns take place in the narrative and at the same time on earth it seems that the critical phase is being reached. The clock is ticking and as far as we can see our heroes are far from completing their mission.
The Black Hole
This is about two hours of film up to this point. The development is sketchy and as I mentioned at the beginning, all these complicated issues are developed in a rather "friendly" way.
The moment had arrived. One of the biggest mysteries out there in the universe is to know what is hiding inside a black hole. Scientists call it "the singularity." It is a point so brutally compressed where the laws of physics as we know them cease to make sense. No one knows what happens to gravity at that point, everything that passes the event horizon is swallowed up, not even light can escape that colossal pull.
Understanding the singularity could unify the theory of relativity with quantum theory. Of course, this knowledge will not be acquired in a Hollywood movie, but we had to try, didn't we?
The scene where the protagonist is swallowed by the black hole is brutal. It is one of the best parts of the movie and if you ask me, I think it would have been a spectacular ending. But, not everything is perfect and "the happy ending" had to happen.
The happy ending
With all the sacrifices that were made in this story and the way the events were unfolding, everything indicated that the ending was not going to be "pretty". And in my opinion that's fine because there are things that have no solution and trying to give it a couple of twists and turns just because it's like forcing the issue too much.
What happens in the black hole seems to border more on fantasy than science fiction. The denouement of the whole thing is like a fairy tale that seeks to say "we made it" but the truth is that I found it inadequate.
The final scenes are very touching but again, I think it takes away from the main narrative. It's that typical "they lived happily ever after" ending. I don't think this will ruin the film but it does take it down a notch in the final consideration.
Conclusions
Interstellar seems to me a spectacular work that aims to explain topics such as the theory of relativity, quantum physics, among others, in a fairly entertaining way and that a general audience can understand in broad strokes the complicated scientific creepers. It also opens your mind by placing you in an apocalyptic scenario in which complicated decisions must be made and extraordinary sacrifices must be made.
Film 100% recommended. Just take your time to watch it and pay close attention to the details, which are not few.
Thank you very much for reaching the end of this post, the truth is that I was very excited to write this review/analysis of this film. I saw it very recently and I didn't want to pass up the fresh ideas that this production has left me. Maybe seeing it 8 years after its premiere is a little late but the concept it conveys is still totally valid.

Creo que más de uno ha tenido o tiene esa lista interminable de películas y series que han sido recomendadas por amigos y familiares. La verdad es que decir "la veo luego" o "la tengo pendiente en mi lista" son de las frases más típicas. Yo por supuesto no soy la excepción, tengo una lista bastante larga que no se si algún día pueda cumplir con ver en su totalidad.
Lo cierto es que por una u otra razón finalmente decidí ver esa producción. En este caso particular tenia pendiente desde hace años, literalmente, ver una de las obras más aclamadas de ciencia ficción de Christopher Nolan, así es, estoy hablando de "Interestelar".
Es extraño pues este genero y por lo que dice el titulo, encaja perfectamente en mis gustos de películas, pero por diversas razones no le había dado la oportunidad. No es una película corta precisamente, dura más o menos unas 2 horas y 48 minutos, casi 3 horas en la pantalla solo puede significar o que es muy buena o simplemente es una obra muy larga lo cual en ovaciones tiende a aburrir.
Cuando esta película se estrenó en el 2014 recuerdo que muchos conocidos fueron a verla al cine y comentarios como: "La gente se salia a mitad de la película de la sala", "Es demasiado larga", "Es muy lenta y aburrida". En fin, toda esa clase de opiniones que te desmotivan y pierdes las ganas de verla.
Conforme pasaron los años, esta película no dejaba de aparecer en los tops de films resultantes, incluso muchos podcasts que sigo dan muy buenas impresiones de interestelar. Es entonces que entré en una disyuntiva entre verla o simplemente conformarme con lo poco que había escuchado.
Luego de años de negación decidí darle una oportunidad y apartar algo de tiempo porque recordemos, es una película muy larga. Tras 8 años de su estreno finalmente la vi y me siento bastante satisfecho, de hecho, fácilmente la pudiera ubicar entre mi lista de películas favoritas.
Por supuesto, Christopher Nolan es de mis directores favoritos y esta película deja su firma sin duda alguna. Nolan, es alguien que dentro de este mundillo ha sido bastante polarizado por la critica. Para muchos produce obras maestras, para otros hace rompecabezas demasiado complicados.
En mi opinión, Interestelar es una historia que aborda una temática altamente compleja ya que veremos temas como: la física cuántica, la teoría de la relatividad, los viajes espaciales, filosofía, la extinción humana, astronomía, es decir, todo un cóctel de argumentos que te pueden hacer volar la cabeza pero, por como es armada la narrativa me parece que todo está bastante bien tejido y las ideas son fáciles de seguir.
Interestelar - El contexto
Interestelar forma parte de ese grupo de películas en la que el mensaje de mundo distópico, apocalíptico, "todos vamos a morir", es bastante claro. Es curioso ver como este tipo de escenarios se repite una y otra vez. Mundos como el de Mad Max, Maze Runner, los juegos del hambre (por solo mencionar algunos) han sido el hilo del cual tirar en la ultima década.
Es evidentemente que tarde o temprano la humanidad enfrentará una de estas situaciones (quizás no tan rústicamente como se plantea en la gran pantalla) pues nuestro mundo ciertamente cuenta con recursos limitados y la población mundial sigue su crecimiento exponencial. Esta inspiración del "fin del mundo" ha servido muchísimo para plasmar o darnos una idea de cual es el futuro que nos depara.
Interestelar se ubica en ese contexto, un planeta tierra que por "misteriosas" razones ha involucionado. Las principales funetes de energia parecen haber sido menguadas y peor aún, las reservas de comida han tenido una dramática caída siendo el trigo, el maíz y otros rubros los principales afectados. Es decir, la civilización está al borde de una masiva hambruna.
Debido a los fenómenos que castigan al planeta, la sociedad actual ha ido adaptándose a las nuevas necesidades. En la película vemos como la gran mayoría de profesiones han quedado en desuso pues la principal preocupación de la población en estos días es la comida, por lo que el regreso a las granjas y el desarrollo de cultivos es la principal actividad económica.
También se puede ver ese contraste entre lo antiguo y lo más futurista. Hay personas que se niegan a este regreso a la granja y continúan desarrollando nuevas tecnologías que puedan ayudar a la humanidad. Nuestro protagonista está en ese punto medio. Un experimentado piloto de la NASA con grandes habilidades en ingeniería lucha por sacar adelante a su familia entre el actual caos que se vive.
La esperanza
Por desconocidas razones la hija de nuestro protagonista recibe unas coordenadas en su habitación. En principio se habla "de un fantasma" pero esta afirmación entra en conflicto con el pensamiento científico del padre pero no obstante, y como en toda buena película de aventura, los personajes siguen estás coordenadas para descubrir de que se trata todo.
Al llegar al recinto, descubren que se trata de una base de la NASA, un gran sorpresa pues se suponía que esta organización había descontinuado sus actividades, cosa que al parecer es cierta pero un pequeño grupo se mantuvo tras las sombras tratando de encontrar la solución al problema mundial.
Algo que me impactó enormemente fue que en una conversación con el director de ese grupo y el protagonista se menciona algo así como "no estábamos de acuerdo con seguir lanzando bombas y matando gente", lo que sugiere explicitamente que para asegurar la sobrevivencia de la especie humana controles radicales fueron llevados a cabo.
Como ven, en tiempos dificultes lo mejor y lo peor del ser humano siempre sale a flote.
La trama continua y se revela que en estas instalaciones se está efectuando la misión "Lázaro" un proyecto de exploración interestelar la cual busca encontrar nuevos planetas habitables ya que la tierra tiene sus días contados. En este punto neutro protagonista es reclutado para dirigir la misión y embarcarse por el futuro de la humanidad. Esta decisión entra en conflicto con su familia pues el viaje interestelar supone años de exploración y debido a los efectos de la relatividad el tiempo pasará más rápido en la tierra que en el espacio sideral, un guiño que hace referencia a la paradoja del gemelo, un tema muy recurrente en la física.
Con las maletas listas, el héroe de la historia parte con su equipo a un viaje sin precedentes. El director de toda la operación sin embargo, guarda un secreto que años después le dará un giro a toda la trama.
La exploración
En esta etapa, la tripulación con la ayuda de "anomalías" en el espacio-tiempo logra recorrer distancias astronómicas y se exploran un par de mundos en los cuales enfrentarán nuevos retos. En este viaje muchos argumentos filosóficos son tocados y plantea un escenario en el que ningún humano ha ni siquiera considerado jamas.
En la nave se vivirán altas tensiones entre los compañeros y la autoridad de cada uno de los miembros será puesta en duda.
Durante esta parte de la película me sentía con un vértigo abrumador. Es como si me pusiera en los zapatos de los tripulantes, me daba una sensación bastante agobiante. El espacio vació, etéreo, es una sensación que puede nublar tu juicio al darte cuenta lo minúsculos e insignificante que somos comparados con la inmensidad de la nada.
Varios giros tiene lugar en la narrativa y al mismo tiempo en la tierra parece que se está llegando a la fase critica. El reloj sigue corriendo y por lo que el panorama nos indica nuestros héroes están lejos de completar su misión.
El agujero negro
Hasta acá son más o menos unas dos horas de película. El desarrollo es esquisto y como mencioné al principio, todos estos complicados temas se desarrollan de una manera bastante "amigable".
El momento había llegado. Uno de los mayores misterios que hay en el universo es saber que es lo que se esconde dentro de un agujero negro. Los científicos lo llaman "la singularidad". Es un punto tan brutalmente comprimido donde las leyes físicas tal y como las conocemos dejan de tener sentido. Nadie sabe que sucede con la gravedad en ese punto, todo lo que pasa el horizonte de sucesos es tragado, ni siguiera la luz puede escapara a esa colosal atracción.
El entendimiento de la singularidad pudiera unificar la teoría de la relatividad con la cuántica. Desde luego, en una película de Hollywood no se adquirirá este conocimiento pero había que intentarlo ¿no?.
La escena en la que el protagonista es tragado por el agujero negro es brutal. Es de las mejores partes de la película y si me preguntan, creo que hubiese sido un final espectacular. Pero, no todo es perfecto y "el final feliz" tenia que tener lugar.
El final feliz
Con todos los sacrificios que se hicieron en esta historia y por como los acontecimientos se iban desarrollando, todo indicaba que el final no iba a ser "bonito". Y en mi opinión eso está bien pues hay cosas que no tienen solución y tratar de darle un par de vueltas de rosca porque si es como forzar mucho la cosa.
Lo que sucede en el agujero negro parece rozar más la fantasía que la ciencia ficción. El desenlace de todo es como un cuento de hadas que busca decir "lo logramos" pero la verdad es que me pareció poco adecuado.
Las escenas finales son muy conmovedoras pero una vez más, creo que se aleja de la narrativa principal. Es ese típico final de "vivieron felices por siempre". No creo que esto arruinare la película pero si le baja un poco a la consideración final.
Conclusiones
Interestelar me parece una obra espectacular que pretende dar explicación a temas a fines a la teoría de la relatividad, física cuántica, entre otros, de una manera bastante amena y que un publico generalizado pueda entender a grandes rasgos las complicadas enredaderas científicas. También te abre la mente ubicándote en un escenario apocalíptico en la que se deben tomar decisiones complicadas y hacer sacrificios extraordinarios.
Película 100% recomendada. Eso si, tomate tu tiempo para verla y presta mucha atención a los detalles que no son pocos.

La vi muy recientemente y no quería dejar pasar las ideas frescas que está producción me ha dejado. It is one of my favorite films. The actors, the soundtrack, the story, the visuals, almost everything in it is great.

Tampoco la he visto, pero siempre escuchado que es una obra maestra, por todos lados se menciona eso y también escuché que aquí se representa muy bien el agujero negro, si queremos ver un mejor ejemplo de eso, dicen que aquí es perfecto.
La tengo en mi lista desde hace mucho tiempo, tengo que tomarme el tiempo pronto.
Si según lei las formulas de la relatividad que describen a un agujero negro son ilustradas aqui con una simulación por computadora bastante exacta.
Cuando puedas le das un vistazo, está bastante genial.
Interstellar, es la mejor película que tiene Christopher Nolan. Por lejos, su obra maestra. Guión, diálogos, atención a los detalles que incluyen física teórica y matemáticas aplicadas. Cosmología, desarrollo de personajes, y ¡por Dios, una muestra más del "viaje del héroe" pero con astronautas y un inminente apocalipsis. Una preciosidad este film. No me canso de verlo, jamás.

La vi en su estreno, cuando vi la duración de casi 3 horas, pensé que se me haría eterna, pero mas bien quería que siguiera, es una excelente película, la anotare, para volverla a ver, y refrescar; saludos y bendiciones!!!
La misma impresión me dejó a mi, 3 horas es demasiado pero en ningún momento se mizo pesada, todo fluye bastante bien la verdad
