Lately, I've been absent-mindedly watching reality dating shows while working. It's actually a fun way to not get tired with routine work and also be entertained. I have watched a number of these types of shows in the past like Are You The One and the likes but I hadn't seen the recent ones people talk about.
I'll quickly run you through the ones I've seen on Netflix recently.
Twenty-Somethings: Austin
This show is set in Austin, Texas and as the name suggests, it is about a bunch of twenty-somethings. It's not particularly a dating show but that's a huge part of its content. There are twin houses, one for the boys, another for the girls, all strangers that are suddenly thrown into one another's lives.
They're mostly people not from Austin who came into town to seek a better life so they decided to start their lives with new roommates. I like that aspect of this show, they try to make headway in their careers and they're involved with the outside world.
Everyone goes out to hustle, it's not the typical reality show where they're coupled indoors all day. They also find relationships and are free to do that in or outside the house. At the end of the show, everyone seems to have fun a bit of what they came for.
There are six episodes in the first season and from the way it ended, there's probably going to be a second season. They're all still twenty-somethings so there's a lot more content for the show.
Too Hot To Handle
This is one crazy show! A number of very hot, horny people are taken to 'Pleasure Island' where they think they're on a reality show to just have sex as they desire. They all eventually find out they'd been punked. It turns out they're on Too Hot To Handle where they're banned from having any form of sexual activity whatsoever.
It's hilarious how disappointed they all look when they discover what they're really in for. With a prize of $200,000 up for grabs, one would think they'd be motivated to not give in to their desires. But no, 9 minutes after the announcement of the ban, people were already making out.
Each time the rule is broken, a bit of the prize money is deducted. Not even that can stop these sex monsters, it's a crazy social experiment they're willing to fail.
Love Is Blind
Now this is one I really like. Each episode is one hour long but I find it totally enjoyable so I don't mind. It is also a social experiment that sets people up on a blind date to find out if they make genuine connections without seeing what each other look like.
If two people hit it off and decide they love each other, they get engaged immediately and then get married. This takes away everything that's superficial about dating, they can only build a connection from hearing voices and having deep conversations.
It's not a 'you're my type' thing based off looks, they get to interact with the minds first. I like the blind dating part of it but getting married after meeting for the first time doesn't sit well with me especially when you haven't talked for extended periods of time.
Some people hit it off almost immediately, some others seem to not get it right, and there are some in love triangles undecided about who to propose to.
Out of all the shows, I like Love Is Blind the most because it's more mature and not superficial or about sex. They're regular people who genuinely want to know each other and make meaningful connections. It's a great show to binge on if you love reality dating shows.

Questioned my sexuality right after watching 😂 jk but the show was great, well season 1 though.
