Black appeared on Pearl Jam's debut album Ten, released on August 27, 1991. Interestingly, the song was not initially intended as a single but gained massive popularity over time. Its roots trace back to Stone Gossard’s 1991 demo cassette, which contained five songs. Eddie Vedder, then working as a gas station attendant in San Diego, was sent this cassette. He penned lyrics and recorded demos for most of these tracks, except for Black.
