Looking back, the last significant era of guitar heroism was during the emergence of nu metal and post-grunge bands in the late '90s and early 2000s. Bands like Avenged Sevenfold with Synyster Gates, and to some extent, System of a Down, Limp Bizkit, Korn, and others, showcased skilled guitar work, including solos that became central to their identity. Even bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains had notable guitarists like Mike McCready, Kim Thayil, and Jerry Cantrell, who contributed memorable solos.
