Part 5/8:
Vocals and Arrangement
Roland Orzabal’s lead vocals are characterized by strategic use of double tracking, lending richness and emphasis to key lyrical phrases. The vocal production employs long delay effects, typical of the 1980s, creating a spacious, atmospheric quality.
The song’s rhythm section features programmed drums with a reverb-heavy snare build-up, adding to the song’s grandiose texture. Contrasting this, the bass guitar is played with finesse—a real instrument that traces the chord changes with great movement and clarity. When combined, the bass and drums lock in tightly, underpinning the song’s dynamic energy.
