The New Zealand 2nd Division launched a bold attack, capturing Zaafran without opposition early in the day, and pressing forward against German-held positions. The defenders fought bitterly with anti-tank guns and infantry as the New Zealanders succeeded in taking prisoners and holding vital ground. Simultaneously, other New Zealand units secured strategic points like Point 175 and the Sidi Rezegh airfield, despite encountering stiff German resistance and supply issues caused by disrupted supply lines.
