To truly know oneself, Jung asserted, one must examine qualities and impulses that are least desired. These are often hidden where we least want to look, and rediscovering them is integral to individuation—the process of becoming whole. Recognizing one’s potential for evil and understanding the motivations behind destructive impulses is essential for genuine moral development. It is only by owning these darker parts that we can attain greater integration and wisdom.
