The recent weather has been relatively warm due to a flat and zonal jet stream pattern that has led to milder conditions throughout much of the country. This warm trend has dominated December, resulting in record-breaking temperatures. However, changes in the jet stream pattern are forecasted, bringing a downward dip that will usher in colder Arctic air starting this weekend. As a robust northerly wind pattern establishes itself by January 8, the effects of this shift are expected to be felt across large parts of the United States, particularly in the Great Plains, Ohio Valley, and Northeast.
