Part 6/11:
In an analysis of the costs associated with territorial gains, the BBC reported that Russia suffered about 45,287 military deaths in 2024, a figure that might only represent 45% to 65% of the actual fatalities. Ukrainian counter-reports put the total military losses for Russia at 430,000, demonstrating the high human cost of Russian advancements in territory—around 27 deaths per kilometer seized.
When viewed through the lens of Russian reports, the situation becomes even more troubling. For every 0.38 square miles of land captured, estimates by Ukrainian sources indicate that Russia has lost around 256 personnel. The territorial gains made by Russia have come at a staggering cost that can hardly be sustained in the long run.
