For instance, the first light bulbs burned out quickly, and early bicycles, dubbed “bone shakers,” lacked inflatable tires. The first airplanes received mixed reviews and failed to instantaneously revolutionize travel.
Similarly, early visions of mobile communication, like the Apple Newton and General Magic's Magic Link, clearly foreshadowed smartphones but were not sustainable at the time. These predecessors had limited capabilities and were often dismissed. Even after the debut of handheld devices like PalmPilots and Blackberries, widespread acceptance took time, paving the way for the smartphone revolution epitomized by the iPhone.
