Since August, Russia has launched the 9M729 missile—referred to by NATO as the SSC-8—at Ukrainian targets on at least 23 occasions. This missile has become a focal point in the conflict, especially because it was a primary reason for the U.S. withdrawal from the INF Treaty in 2019. Designed with a range of approximately 500 nautical miles (about 925 km), the 9M729 can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads, making it a formidable weapon capable of striking deep within Ukrainian territory.
