Part 3/7:
Designed with the ambitious goal of drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the Neoliner Origin aims to cut emissions by 80 to 90% compared to conventional diesel-powered cargo ships. Jean Zanotini, CEO of Neoline—the French shipping company behind the vessel—highlighted the potential of wind propulsion, describing it as a "free energy" resource that is always available, albeit variably.
He emphasized that wind power is a highly predictable form of renewable energy that does not require extensive infrastructure or the production of carbon-free fuel ashore. This independence from large fuel supply chains makes wind propulsion especially appealing for small to mid-scale vessels, which often cannot justify the costs of large-scale green fuel infrastructure.
