The incident occurred on January 11th, during a complex boarding operation off the coast of Somalia aimed at intercepting an Iranian weapons smuggling vessel. While executing the operation, one SEAL fell into the water, prompting an immediate rescue attempt by his teammate. In the aftermath, U.S. allies Japan and Spain, along with the Coast Guard, assisted in the search, along with oceanography experts from UC San Diego.
