One of the fundamental problems lies in predicting where a lightning bolt will strike. Lightning is highly unpredictable, making it difficult to position harvesting equipment in the right place at the right time. Unlike wind or solar power, which can be harnessed with relatively stable infrastructure, lightning strikes occur randomly.
Technical Barriers to Energy Storage
Even if we could predict lightning strikes or devise ways to capture them, current technology is not capable of handling their rapid and intense surges of power. The immense, brief bursts of energy from a bolt would likely damage traditional storage systems or could be impossible to capture instantaneously.
