Recognizing this, the Detroit Public Schools Foundation launched an ambitious program to distribute 51,000 tablets, each bundled with a six-month internet plan and technical support, aiming to bridge the digital divide for students. The initiative also includes provisions to assist families in transitioning to low-cost internet plans or covering costs for those unable to afford them, reflecting a partial shift towards making broadband a public service akin to postal services or public education.
