Part 6/10:
A significant barrier to widespread adoption of sustainable housing is cost. NODE's flat pack system aims to lower construction expenses to challenge the misconception that sustainable homes must be prohibitively expensive. The modular kits are designed for simplicity—requiring minimal labor, which currently is a major obstacle in the building industry due to labor shortages.
LABOR shortages are partly attributed to a decline in people entering construction trades, the long-term aftermath of the Great Recession, and recent immigration policies that have reduced the skilled workforce available in certain regions like the U.S. This creates a pressing need for innovative solutions that can be built quickly and with fewer specialized skills.
