They turned to Sci-Hub, a notorious website dubbed the “Pirate Bay of science,” which provides free access to millions of scholarly articles by circumventing paywalls. During the COVID-19 crisis, Shrine downloaded thousands of coronavirus-related papers, making them available to the scientific community and the public.
