From a Small Initiative to a Massive Movement
The original goal was modest: raise $50,000 to buy back $1 million of debt. However, the movement quickly surpassed expectations, raising $700,000—a sum that allowed them to abolish over forty million dollars in medical, student, and payday loan debt.
This success marked the beginning of a more sustained effort. But shortly after, something unexpected happened: Occupy decided to wind down its activities. Craig and Jerry, however, felt compelled to continue.
