While GitHub automatically backs up its code in data centers globally, physical storage in harsh environments greatly enhances the chances of preservation across centuries. The challenge, however, lies in developing a medium that can withstand the test of time.
This is where Piql, a Norwegian data preservation company, steps in. Instead of relying solely on magnetic drives or cloud storage, Piql converts digital files into microscopic QR codes printed on special silver halide films. This film, a modern take on traditional photographic technology, is highly durable and resistant to environmental damage.
