Using only about $300 worth of home television equipment, Pavur and his team demonstrated that intercepting sensitive satellite communications is surprisingly straightforward. By pointing a standard television satellite dish — which any household with basic electronics possesses — they could capture radio signals from satellites 30,000 kilometers above Earth.
Once the dish is set up and connected to appropriate software, finding a satellite involves identifying key frequency humps amidst noise. These signals can then be converted from radio waves into digital bits, enabling analysis similar to internet traffic scrutiny.
