The second and perhaps more formidable obstacle is human fear—a deeply ingrained response to rapid technological change. Evolution has wired humans to be cautious of unknown risks, encapsulated in what Benjamin describes as an innate "Chesterton's Fence" mentality: before dismantling a tradition or boundary, one should understand its purpose. Much of this fear around artificial wombs stems from the discomfort with altering the natural process of pregnancy, which is so central to human identity and biological reproduction.
