Part 2/11:
The global prosthetics and orthotics industry is valued at about $6 billion, but it remains largely unchanged in its structure for over five decades. Dominated by a small handful of companies, the industry faces little incentive to lower prices or innovate systemic solutions. While technological improvements have occurred, they haven't led to a fundamental transformation of how prosthetics are designed, manufactured, and distributed.
Despite the vast number of potential users—approximately 40 million amputees worldwide—only 5% have access to adequate prosthetic care and technology. This glaring gap underscores a pressing need for innovation that makes prosthetic devices more accessible, affordable, and adaptable.
