Wright acknowledged China’s impressive capacity building but stressed that coal remains the dominant energy source globally and within China, having supplied 125 years of electricity. Despite China’s wind and solar growth, these sources still constitute a small percentage of the total energy mix. Importantly, China leads the world in manufacturing solar panels and exporting solar technology, controlling over 80% of the solar supply chain, which offers economic advantages but also raises questions about energy independence for America.
