Right now, AI systems neither possess nor mimic consciousness—they are advanced tools designed to process, analyze, and generate language or actions. Nevertheless, the potential for a fundamental breakthrough cannot be dismissed.
Furthermore, as AI systems become more capable, the criteria for what we consider intelligent or conscious will evolve. We’re likely to find ourselves continually redefining these concepts, discovering that many human traits might be features of a more complex, nuanced substrate of existence—one that extends beyond mere biological cognition.
