According to data from Comscore, the 2023 summer box office is on pace to cross the $4 billion mark for the 13th time in history. Big blockbusters like Barbie and Oppenheimer, which together have amassed over $856 million domestically, have undeniably contributed to the positive trend. Compared to last year’s total of $3.44 billion and the pandemic-crippled 2020 figures, this summer’s performance appears robust — roughly 17% ahead of 2022 and within striking distance of the 2019 record of $4.3 billion.
