Manfred’s mention of a salary cap as a concern from fans is viewed as a smoke screen. Contrary to claims that such measures promote competitive fairness, the reality is quite different. Historically, salary caps do little to promote parity; they often merely enable wealthier teams to dominate while stifling smaller-market clubs. For example, in the NFL’s salary cap era, a small handful of teams have consistently dominated, showing that cap systems are more about controlling expenses than fostering genuine competition.
