Part 7/14:
A recurring theme is the replacement of original, culturally specific elements with foreign counterparts. In Lord of the Rings, characters are altered to feature martial arts from different parts of the world, or to include diverse cultural symbols, ostensibly to be more globally inclusive. Similarly, Doctor Who has seen British norms replaced with foreign influences, accompanied by symbolic references like Rwandan proverbs integrated into characters' backgrounds.
Critics argue this risks transforming the entire cultural fabric of the original IPs, diluting their sense of national or cultural identity. It isn't just about casting but about the underlying values, norms, and storytelling traditions being overwritten to serve a broader, more politically correct narrative.
