Fridging and Emotional Investment
The series uses the common "fridging" trope—the killing of a character to motivate the protagonist—more subtly than usual, but it remains ineffective. The victim is not emotionally compelling because they are not well developed, and the only emotional payoff comes from Charlie Cox’s acting, not the narrative itself. The review suggests that a better approach would have been to make the audience care about the characters beforehand, perhaps through earlier scenes or establishing relationships.
