Robinson's father played a pivotal role in bringing his son to justice. Recognizing his son's face in FBI-released photographs, he immediately informed authorities. When asked why he hadn’t gone to the police earlier, he told officials that his son had admitted to being the gunman and expressed a desire to end his own life rather than face arrest. It was only after convincing Tyler to speak with their youth minister that the young man agreed to surrender himself. The youth minister promptly alerted the FBI, and Robinson was taken into custody without incident.
