The finale attempts to depict the Doctor's battle against the embodiment of death, culminating in convoluted sequences involving "dragging" the god of death through the time vortex using "intelligent rope" and "magic gadgets," all of which defy logic. The Doctor’s monologue about having "wiped out the universe" and the subsequent "victory" feel hollow and disconnected from the gravity that such a claim should entail.
The climax—where the Doctor seemingly kills the god of death* by breaking the "magic rope"*—is nonsensical, with explosions and CGI effects that look slapped together. The episode ends with the return of characters and planets, but their resurrection is handled so poorly that it resembles a Deus Ex Machina-assisted reset rather than a satisfying conclusion.
