Many viewers have noted the show's reliance on stereotypes—particularly its portrayal of women as the "fragile" or "insufferable"—and the depiction of the universe as overtly patriarchal. There’s a recurring joke about how the series is arguably “the gayest Star Wars,” thanks to its representation of certain inhabitants and themes, but the tone remains cringeworthy.

The series also falls prey to the typical Hollywood trope of men talking over women, dismissing their ideas, or portraying female characters primarily as nagging or overly emotional. Conversely, the series seems to be just as guilty of caricaturing male characters as overly aggressive or incompetently macho.
