Conventional current (the direction positive charge would flow in a circuit) was defined historically by Benjamin Franklin before we understood electrons. He assumed electricity flowed from positive to negative terminals.
In reality, electrons (negative charge carriers) move from negative to positive, opposite to conventional current.
This convention stuck in engineering and textbooks for consistency, even though actual electron flow is reverse.
