He explained why this was such a bad idea. He had worked in the administration, he'd worked in the defense department. So I was fortunate in that regard. But the Iraq war was a blatant abuse of power on a scale that I at that age had never experienced in my life. I don't know enough about American history to be able to point to another example. I don't know of another one where the president of the United States centralized power. Again, we should also remember that the passage of the Patriot Act, the tightening of financial regulations around money laundering, et cetera, post 2001 was a dramatic departure from the world that we (24/99)
