Gold and Silver Events : For Stackers or Chumps?

in LeoFinance2 years ago (edited)

There are a few Gold and Silver Events which show up on my radar from time to time that look like they might be interesting. Maybe the event is some kind of conference, symposium, seminar or coin show – they come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes. But how appealing are they to the hard core Stackers out there? Yes, my friends from SGS – I am looking at YOU when I ask this question.

It is fairly typical for Stackers to be somewhat secretive about the fact they own physical metals. After all, nobody wants to be robbed by a clever and motivated thief….or their government for that matter. Even though a lot of Stackers use Private Vaults or other forms of secure storage there is significant responsibility for Stackers in taking physical ownership of Precious Metals so being a Stacker is not normally something you want to advertise at public events.

I went to a Precious Metals Symposium in Sydney 2016 and it was a series of presentations from executives of Gold and Silver mining companies really just explaining (and shilling) their own projects and trying to generate investment. I found it interesting and even a little bit exciting, but pretty much all of the share investments I made after that event due to listening to those presentations turned out to be dogs. So I came to the conclusion the event was more about roping in some newcomer investors to the paper metals game. In hindsight, I was one of those mugs….but I learnt quick and still got out without too many scars.

I know that the SGS Community here on HIVE is planning to have a physical meetup in Las Vegas this year which is scheduled to happen at the same time as a Coin Show. To me it sounds like a Coin Show might be more interesting for Stackers as there will at least be physical metals to see – but is it likely to be a similar game of rope-in-a-dope? I’ve come to the firm conclusion that metal is metal and while I do have a bit of a soft spot for semi-numismatic coins and rounds, I know how easy it is to get shafted paying a hefty premium for something that isn’t worth it...

What sort of events do the Stackers here on HIVE like to attend? I am genuinely interested in learning more and experiencing the Stacker Life, but in Australia we don’t seem to have a lot going on. I’d love to go to a Workshop or Event that’s doing hand pours, artisan crafts or silver smithing like many in the community here do. Does something like this exist or is it too specialised to make an event out of? Please drop a comment below and share your experience of any Gold and/or Silver events you might have attended. Would love to hear more about what sort of Gold and Silver events are out there and whether you think they're worth attending.

I'd love to see silver pouring in person. That'd be really cool.

For sure. In my mind I kind of imagine one of those old-worldly type fairs with the blacksmith type demonstration. It's just such a niche interest that I can't imagine I'll see it in Australia.

There's an annual, medieval fair down my way, Gumeracha; but I'm sure the council wouldn't let anything fun like that happen.

I'm actually allergic to anything with the word "symposium" in it scratch scratch but good on you for trying that thing, oof.

I've been to a couple coin shows and it's mostly stuff I wouldn't buy but I saw some really cool stuff in person so that was fun. Also any time there are vendors like that I think there are deals to be had, you just have to spend the time going round and round again to all the tables.

It's funny though, the coin show in Vegas is more of the excuse to go to Vegas. I'm just looking forward to hanging with some sgs friends.

A silver pour place would be cool. Puts me in mind of those glass blowing places where you can go for a class or blow your own xmas ornament. I guess you just can't have that much silver lying around in that environment.

:o

Yes, it is a GREAT excuse and I am very curious to see how it goes. Just wondering how much of a draw card the coin show is, or whether it's really just your good company that will draw the SGS crowds :)

Visit the Perth Mint !

That's on my bucket list for sure. I hear the tour there is great...

...but I can't even cross state lines right now. So maybe after all the craziness is over it'll be an option.

having gold seems so bulky now lol. I used to pan for it outside of los angeles. I found nearly a half an oz over the years. I love, love, love looking at my little vile of fine gold. I have a little vile of pickers but not as mesmerizing to look at. Other than that I've gone digital. I can't imagine personally holding more than I could put in my pocket though. I dont know how i'd keep it safe. Digital is just easier.

A meetup for stackers sure seem like a great one. I haven't attend one before but would sure love to

I will love to attend a show that can break down the benefits and cons of stacking these precious metals.

I don't mind a live stream or twitter space
