So it has taken a bit of time for me to figure out the whole "2nd layer" curation thing and it turns out I was missing 2 key elements of the process. I'll hit on that in a minute.
But first, my stated goal here is to curate as many posts or comments as I can with 100% votes in order to be a good citizen and pay forward the past whale votes I've gotten.
Return on Community is greater than Return on Investment when you are just starting out like me and trying to grow.
I have two accounts to participate with and combined I'm at just over 4100 leo power. I post, vote and comment with @cflclosers and I curate with @tulwave
The problem has been that on my main @cflclosers account I burn through my hive mana too quickly and it effects my 100% votes on Leo. I needed that to change. I want to keep around 80% voting power on hive in that account. I don't care about hive power in my @tulwave account.
The solution for my problem has existed for some time but I couldn't get it to work. That solution is the Rewards Multiplier on Leo DEX
The function provides help to anyone who wants to control the voting amount they give out on the second layer in relation to hive. Perfect for me but I couldn't get it to work.
Mistake 1
With some incredible discord help from @jk6276 I was able to figure out the errors of my ways.
- Use Keychain - When logging into Leo Dex you need to use Keychain.
I always use Hivesigner but for setting your Vote Weight Multiplier you must use keychain. However, if you use Hivesigner, the vote weight will appear to change on Leo Dex but it won't work during voting.
Mistake 2
The idea for me was to set my Multiplier all the way to 10 so that If I give someone a 100% Leo vote it would only lower my Hive power by 10%. But it doesn't work like that.
I was missing the whole point, and hence the name Multiplier. What I was doing was voting a 100% Leo vote thinking it would only use 10% of my hive voting power as seen below.

Notice that my slider is at 100% and the amount of my 100% @cflclosers vote is .018 Leo. It seemed like this was correct to me but it wasn't. I was giving a 100% Leo vote but my hive voting power was also reduced by a 100% vote. I didn't want that! (Think "Multiplier")
What I needed to do can be seen in the image below and you'll notice something really cool.

I set my slider down to 10% but the amount of my vote was still .018! Remember I set my Vote Weight Multiplier all the way up to 10. Now any vote I give whether 10,20,30, 40 and so on will show as the 100% voting value which is currently .018 Leo.
It only changes if I slide lower than 10. This is exactly what I wanted. The system multiplies my 10% Leo vote by the value of 10 and only reduces my hive voting power by 10%
I know it shouldn't have been this hard for me to figure out so I wanted to post about this in case anyone else wants to give out more Leo while conserving their hive mana.
This is a great solution if you are looking to curate in other tribes at the same time you are curating in LeoFinance as well. So my problem is solved and you will now see more votes from @cflclosers !

Great explanation! I've been using the multipliers even before Khal made us all a favor and added them to LeoFinance. When this feature was broke a few weeks ago, I really missed it, because I check my VP regularly, to see if I need to update multipliers for one or more tokens.
I didn't know about this! I wanted to use my full vote reward too but keep my mana to its fullest.

The vote multiplier is definitely useful. I have been using it ever since I found out about it. Haven't used up all my VP on all tokens but got closer.
